I currently using a Tamron 90mm with D200, I am tempted to change to Voigtlander for its MF capability as the Voigtlander offers one and a half turn on the focusing ring from nearest to infinity whereas the Tamron is 3/4 turn.
The Voigtlander min aperture is f/22 but the Tamron is f/64 (usually use up to f/25) which provide a deeper DOF. Apart from the colour, contrast and bokeh, which lens is sharper at f/22. Anyone have a pic or link of both lens showing 100% crop pics taken at f/22 at the same macro subject? Thanks |

I suggest u better changed now if u have the chance, this lens is not only higher sought after, but also hard to find especially AIS mount, the moment someone decides to sell, it gets snap up faster than u ever had a moment to consider. The excellent built quality alone justify the decision...i already missed it a few times, i finally got myself a KA mount.

Another recommendation for the Voigtlander. Both lenses are obviously in different price classes. But if you can afford it, buy the Voigtlander. Being able to stop down to f/64 is hardly a point in this comparison considering the effects of diffraction will be so pronounced by then that your image will be unusable.
For macro, I'd probably only stop down to f/22, tops. Even then the image will be fairly soft overall. Don't get all hung up about getting everything within the depth of field, but use a shallower DOF plus selective focusing to create an artistic feel in your image. |
