Hello everyone hehe kinda new here
![]() Am trying to get a new camera that has decent quality, and have shortened it down to the above 3 cameras..The F31fd seems to be really good but I can't seem to find it anywhere at all x.x called up the electronics stores like Harvey Norman etc. and some photo shops but all no stock :x Probably will have to settle for something similar to it, but am kind of facing a dilemma with regards to choosing the F50fd / F40fd. My budget can fit both cams, but which do you think has better quality? (for users who have played with either one of them) I'm looking to experiment with shots at about ISO400 (so hopefully they have to be decently clear at this range) and ISO800 if possible, so really wishing for a cam with great image quality and less noise at higher ISOs... Umm.. Other than that I have two questions, heh: 1. I've read that squeezing the 12 megapixels into the 1/1.6" sensor in the F50fd caused it to have slightly poorer image quality than the F31fd, would 8 megapixels in the same 1/1.6" sensor in the F40fd improve upon this and the F40fd give better image quality than the F50fd? I'm not too concerned with the megapixel count, and will settle for anything 6 and above to be honest, so more doesn't really matter to me here 2. Would image stabilisation in the F50fd sort of make up for its poorer image quality as compared to the F31fd? Sorry for the many questions, thanks so much in advance ![]() Last edited by soonks; 2nd December 2007 at 01:00 PM. |

hmm, i found a site that compares sample night photos at various ISO speeds,
http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail....6&t=410415&p=1 it's in chinese, but i think quite self-explanatory anyway.. the F40fd seems to perform better than the F50fd..and since the megapixels dont really matter to me much, it seems to be a better option. What do you guys think? especially those who have used either cameras before? Do you really face such problems? Thanks sorry for posting twice in a row. hehe |

IMHO, F20 and F30/31 are still the best in the series.

hmm i understand..but those models can't be easily found, esp. the F31fd x.x
I've been thinking about it, and basically it seems to boil down to this: F40fd - better image quality, NO mechanical image stabilisation, no Av/Tv F50fd - not so good image quality, mechanical image stabilisation, got Av/Tv I'm still struggling to make a decision between the two, but is it possible to make the following judgment? The F40fd has greater image quality at higher ISOs, so i can push the ISO speeds more and take photos at faster shutters, reducing the need for mechanical Image stabilisation and compensating for the lack of IS on F40fd -- does this work out? hehe. is this increase in shutter speed significant at all? |

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf50fd/ IMO, A/S modes are invaluable features. |

Hmm, I bought the F40fd on Wednesday...
It seems rather nice, though I'm getting used to the lack of Aperture and Shutter Priority.. Somehow even at ISO 100 seems slightly grainish when zoomed in but looks okay overall. haha. Here are some photos taken at pulau ubin: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2160183...7603400957164/ was fiddling with the exposure compensation...might be because it was a rainy day..still getting used to the camera though! ![]() |
