Default Tamron warranty period in Singapore?

I inquired about the warranty period of a Tamron 18-250 lens (Pentax mount) at 2 shops

Cathay Photo says it is one year.
MS Color Service says it 3 year.

Why is this difference? Both are authorized dealers of Tamrom.

The local distributor for Tamron lenses is Tithes Marketing.

Tithes Marketing honors the 1 year international warranty of all Tamron lenses, as long as you produce the warranty card and the receipt. However, Tithes Marketing have their own extended warranty of another additional 2 years (total = 3 years) if you register withing 7 days of your purchase with a card that has Tithes Marketing printed on it.

International warranty means buy in Singapore and get the lens repaired by a Tamron authorized dealer in any part of the world?

How & where to register the lens within 7 days?

International warranty can be buy in anywhere in the world, and the local distributor would honor it. Grey sets are parallel imports where the lens is bought from outside Singapore and sold locally, not through the official distribution chain. That is why some lenses only have shop warranty.

To register for the additional 2 years of warranty, the lens would come with a card from Tithes Marketing, and you would need to fill that up and send it back.

All these lenses are tracked by their serial number, and with the serial number, the distributor or principle can find out where the lens was originally from.

Nikon USA also gives 5 years warranty for some of their lenses and sells at a lower price generally. Critical mass or consumer rights culture?

Thanks for the explanation.

But after the first year of international warranty, I suppose I will have to ship to & back (at my cost ) the lens to Tithes for any repair during the extended 2 years warranty.

The warranty is limited to USA only. It is not an international one, meaning you will have to ship it to the dealer you purchased from or to Tamron USA. Convenient for USA customers, not for international customers who will have to bear the cost of shipping & insurance to the dealer.

(Six-Year Warranty Valid in USA only.)
