Looking for a bike.. mid-to-low end, good enough for my cycling.
get a diamondback. it will serve you many years, it keeps giving and giving.
it'll depends how cheap your cheap means, a average one can set you 400 plus, which can last quite some time.
Are those Carrefour/Giant bikes any good for day-to-day 5-8KM biking? I think they're branded as Aleoca... Not for sporting or hard-core biking, just to get from A-to-B.
$100 for a second hand bike? Well this is not the place to find out. Try a bike forum like http://www.togoparts.com/
There are people who might be upgrading their bike so will be selling off their bike before they do so...thus this is one of those site you should poke around for some good deals.
$100 is not alot to play with and if anyone is going to let go a second hand bike at that price..it would be pretty old for those averagely branded bikes and if you want something still quite good condition and "new" those will be the what I call the rubbish brand bikes that is really some OEM bike manufacturer like Akimbo, Aloeca, Chris Cycle..etc. A brand new one is about a few hundred only. They will not last as long if you trash it about and they are heavy clunkers but getting you from point A to B. It should do fine.

Go try thieve's market, mountain bike S$50
Some Cash Converters got for below $100. Some HDB bicycle shops also got for $100-$200 new.
It started as a place where most items sold there were stolen - hence the name.

Incidently, its a great place for street fotogs too.
Cash converter season bike. Need to replace some parts.
Think of concepts and work towards it.
Never ever buy from carrefour. Mine rusted le after i brought it on a trail whack..now using a hand-me-down marin bike works pretty well.
You may wanna to try the HDB shops for some; maybe around $150-$200 can get a pretty decent one.
But if you bring it out for some serious terrain combing and mud plugging, then get one that is really made for it, like Trek or Specialized... but these are insane bikes! (but I like!)
from guitars, cars to dslr...
sammy is rite on. save abit more and buy a good bye at any reputable shop with warranty. thanks.
