Default The World of Alpenglow

Many years ago, I posted and shared my first alpenglow here in clubsnap. Since then, I've taken a number of others, and have in fact, shared it here before. But I've decided to share it here again as a single thread. My inspiration for alpenglow was from Galen Rowell, and you can read alittle more about that here.

So, light on.

Annapurna South (7219m), Nepal

Machupuchare/Fishtail (6993m), Nepal

Mt Cook (3794m), New Zealand

MeiliXueShan range, Yunnan China
There're suppose to be 13 peaks, of which Kawa Karpo, WuGuanFeng above are one of them, but I'm not sure how to count all of them...

Jambeyang (5958m), Sichuan China

Chenrezig (6032m) over Pearl Lake, Sichuan China

Beautiful, thanks for sharing! I agree, it's really amazing to get up before sunrise and just watch the snowy peaks turn from orange to pink to yellow. May I ask what lens you used to capture the close up pictures?

nuts,
Wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing.

Of all these mountains, I've only seen Kanchenjunga from Tiger Hill at Darjeeling. Didn't even have a camera then, but the memories of the early morning sun on this majestic mountain, are etched in my mind forever.

When I saw these photos, I was instantly reminded of an article that I had read about Landscape photography and Chinese philosophy.

智者乐水仁者乐山 was one of the idioms (?) that were quoted in that.

So what are you ? A water person or a mountain person ? Obviously, looks the latter.

Thanks, glad you like it.
I guess I'm more inclined towards mountain... does that make me more benevolent than wise?

From Tiger Hill, on a good day, you can see Everest even...
Unfortunately when I was there, I was sick, and couldn't fully enjoy the time

Well, essentially, they are sunrise/sunset situations, the light conditions changes v fast, so be prepared for quick exposure changes if needed. Best is you're there early and can analyse whatever composition you want beforehand.
More often than not, the difficult part is getting to the vantage point! eg. you underestimate the trek and by the time u reach the best point, you are panting hard, struggling to setup your tripod, and the light changes in front of you.... or can't find tripod space cos the whole world is already there etc etc
