Hi folks,
I'm thinking of getting a zoom lens (18-200mm) for my D40. Can anyone advise me which lens below is the best fit? (in term of price, performance...etc) Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED http://www.nikon.com.sg/productitem....825-ff2662b928 or Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM http://sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_...29&navigator=6 Other than above 2 lenses, are there any other available in the market? Thanks |

If the performance of Sigma lens is equally good compare to original Nikon one, then I don't mind getting it.
If, however, Sigma lens cannot be compared Nikon, then I think I would not want to risk buying it. So the bottom line is: Sigma lens is cheaper than Nikon, but it MUST also perform close to Nikon standard. or in Hokkien verse: Sigma lens must be cheap and green... ![]() |

agree, get the Nikon. VR is better, Nikon 18-200 build quality is good, future compatibility, f5.6 better than f6.3, lighter, surface does not peel off, AFS is faster than normal AF unless HSM. Higher resale value too.

Any users of the sigma 18-200 OS for nikon mount wanna comment on its performance??
Coz i'm thinkin of gettin this cheaper alternative for travel, since i'll only be upgrading to the nikon's 17-55 and 80-200 in the future when i got the money.. so this will be a temporary solution. Of coz the sigma lense performance cannot compare to the nikon's.. but how much difference is there, and whether its a bargain at 2/3 the nikon price... thast the answer i need to know... ![]() |

As for the 18-200, I'm using nikon. I would advise you to keep the lens even after you upgrade when you have the money. Its a good walk about lens, can shoot anything from sunset to protraits to events. |

Buy the Nikon one instead of Sigma.
Tried both of them before and think the nikon is a notch better |

Used both before. Get the Sigma 18-200mm as a general and save the rest of your money for a faster lens, whether it be a 17-55 or 80-200
