Default Amazing Thailand 23-27 Nov 2007

Hey guys! I just came back from Thailand a day ago and I've a few pics to share with you guys. All comments and suggestions welcomed very much! This time round, I visited more of the local markets (and the floating market) of Thailand i.e. Bangkok rather than the peaceful countryside. All my photos were shot on a 17-50mm f/2.8 and a 580EX flash (though no photos here are shot with flash on) only. I am too poor to buy any other lens (not even a decent telephoto).... This trip has definitely taught me about quick decision making to capture candid shots. The Thai markets are definitely a great place for such street candid shots

All photos are in chronological order. Here you go:

1) Tattoo Anyone?
These stallholders tend to customers when there are but when there's an absence of customers, they would either take a nap, play the Gameboy or chat with other stallholders.

Suan-Lum Night Bazaar - Thailand

2) FATE
At the Weekend Market, one can find all kind of stuff, from pets to food to clothes to flowers. This puppy was found at one of the pet stores in the market and it's one of the most active ones. However, it kind of pains me to see these puppies been trapped in a pen. He seems rather desperate to find an owner....

Weekend Market beside Chatuchak Park - Thailand

3) The Drive...
At the famous Floating Market of Thailand, one can find many stallholders rowing their boats to find potential customers along the river. Bargaining is a very common activity at the Floating Market. Things sold at the market include hats, fruits and even satay. I purposely captured this scene with a tilt (as if he is rowing his boat upstream) to show the drive of these stallholders to sell their items to their customers.

4) An Elephant's Wrath
I've never been really agreeing towards elephant shows. One can never know whether the elephants like them or not. But I believe no animal would want to be trapped and treated as a money-making object. At the side of the elephant's ear, is the feet of the elephant rider.

The Elephant Show at The Rose Garden - Thailand

5) The Grand Palace
Although this palace is really grand looking, it somehow failed to interest me very much. Perhaps I was just too tired after 3 days of walking and snapping to scrutinize the carefully crafted jewels used as decor on the gold plated buildings.

The Grand Palace - Thailand

6) Amazing Thailand!
Trust me...the thai girls are really beautiful and friendly . Especially the working ladies. They are gorgeous This photo was taken at a Manga Event held beside MBK Shopping centre (opposite National Stadium MRT station).

7) The Divide
Despite the vibrancy of Bangkok, one can still find many beggers sitted along MRT Stations, bridges and stall entrances. Many are either crippled or are so thin they resemble kids in Africa. It was shocking to see one of the beggers having legs thinner than my arm (and I dare say I'm a skinny person). This made me realise the divide between the "urbaners" and these poor souls. The rich and those of average wealth gets to enjoy the lively night life of Bangkok while these underprivilaged people can only sleep along the streets. It's not only Bangkok...it's a situation in every country...Singapore included...

Streets of Bangkok - Thailand

Yup 7 images to conclude my Thai trip Hope you guys like the photos! Btw anyone knows how to enlarge the photos? I saved them at 400x280. But CS keeps giving me small thumbnails. I linked the image right from the link given at the CS members gallery.

you can right click on the picture and then click on "save as" or "save image" (depending on browser) in the pop up window.

dun you think keeping a low resolution web-based copy with watermark for personal purposes is more appropriate than asking for a high resolution original copy without watermark that can be used in various purposes, from the viewpoint for and concern exactly over copyright?

Well its still better to ask for permission rather then to just C&P I presume? It's just basic courtesy to ask before borrowing something from somebody. I would give him the original willingly if he asked.

it's up to you to make that decision, afterall you are the owner of your copyright.

i make that statement without saying more after seeing this thread. i felt sorry for that ts for making a demand that he may not know is over the line for what most photographers perceived over their work, as compared to the general public or some bloggers who see about copyright. i said that so that he need not received what may potentially occur as what has happen on the thread stated. well you turn out to be a nice person, but we didn't know before hand.

i'm not trying to pick up an argument, just wanted to clarify with you before being taken by any one on the forum as someone who does not understand or does not respect a photographer's copyright, being an amateur photographer myself.

i would apologise with regards to offering the method of "save as" from browser, as with more understanding, it is still currently a controversial issue over it in the states law that saving images to disk from browser, excluding the existence of picture in the cache, may be seen as an infringement of copyright in the states. such saving of images from the internet without usage, is not yet covered and protected by fair use guidelines. further development of such laws from the states or thereafter in sg, may shed more light in future.
