Happened to see the Canon catalog on cameras, accessories and lenses. While waiting to be serve, I manage to take a peek at the lenses catalog.

The most expensive Canon lenses (1200mm something), recommended at a price of S$200,000.00.

This is enough to buy you a decent HDB 4-room flat, or a brand new C200 Mercedes Benz....

At a large f/5.6 and being an L, it's not surprising. If anything, you should find it even more shocking that for $200,000, you can get a very beautiful 3-storey semi-d house in Malaysia, not a SMALL 4-room HDB. And a Mercedes there costs much much less than $200,000.
