28-70 f/2.8: this is obviously a lens with good IQ
75-240 : this is a cheap telezoom with better than expected bokeh 12-24 : use this when wide angle is important but this is not a nikon 24-85: above average performance under light weight category Last edited by gohaj; 25th November 2007 at 09:27 AM. |

18-135 (main lens for now)
70-300G (tele lens when used for stuff like sports and spotting, as well as when I need the zoom)

Just switch from Canon and one of the main reason I went to Canon previously was that to have a range of 24-200 (at max aperture of constant f2.8), I need 3 lenses in Nikon but only 2 in Canon. Now with the new D3 and lenses, I decided to switch back to Nikon and current arsenal is:
14-24 f2.8 (for those extreme wide angle and still require rectilinear) 24-70 f2.8 (bread and butter lens) 70-200 f2.8VR (the undisputed champion in this range, most versatile lens for portraits/beauty) 200-400 f4 (best versatile lens beyond 200mm). To me, lens are just tools to get the job done. Having a constant max wide aperture provides 3 distinct advantages: Low light event; brighter viewfinder for composition and AF generally works better and faster with a 2.8 or wider. Exception is the 200-400 but to have that beast at 2.8 will be EXTREMELY expensive. The lens technology today is such that the argument of "primes are better" is totally moot. Granted, one might have a marginal quality improvement over zooms, but for what I do, I would rather sacrifice such marginal quality in return for extreme versatility. Having both the D3 and D300 effectively allows me to have "another" set of lens with the FF and 1.5 crop factor. |

How come i can't vote?
![]() anyway here goes 18-200 F3.5-5.6 VR the thailand version. extremely versatile especially with a flash. but not as versatile as KRW makes it out to be. cant beat the trinities 17-35 F2.8 dont really like it. only got it because of the crop factor. 35-70 F2.8 my original lens from my dad from the late eighties i think and its a dust sucker. 28-70 F2.8 White (hoping to update to the 24-70 F2.8 havent really been using this lens as the crop factor makes it difficult to use for my shots.) 70-200 F2.8 VR White (wonderful lens but sucks with the 2x teleconverter.)
