Hi All,
need advices from all old bird... I am thinking of switching from my 350D to the S5Pro but a friend ask me to consider E3 also saying it has good color accuracy like S5pro and with stabiliser builtin. Has any S5pro user here compared their output with E3? thanks sam |

I dont have the E3, and have the S5pro..but if i started from scratch, I might start with the E3..I do think it gives a lot of interesting photographic opportunities with the swivel LCD screen and IS within body..

In my opinion, Nikon AF and AIS lenses are so widely available (both new and used) that I see no point getting an Olympus even if the colors of the E3 is better than the S5 Pro.
Again, both cameras are of different class. The S5 Pro is a niche camera, meaning it appeals to a specific group of photographers who know what they want. Last edited by photobum; 24th November 2007 at 10:38 AM. |

Go to the Fourth Third thread and read about the E3. I would certainly go for it if i were you. weather proof - can do a wash up if cam happens to get dirty, image stabilizer in built - can use on all lens or even handheld marco, doesnt need to buy expensive IS lens, live view & swivel lcd. Color is rich & brilliant.

That is the last thing I will do even if it is weatherproof.Let me make it clear to all. Weatherproof doesn't mean winterproof. I used to own a 'weatherproof' Olympus PNS camera. The damn thing stopped working at -2 degree C in Vancouver's winter. Last edited by photobum; 24th November 2007 at 11:18 AM. |

Thanks for all your replies..
I am eyeing on the S5pro for quite sometime until last week I talked to MS Color they say the S5pro may not come in anymore because of low demand. I tried to search around but there is not much review on the E3 yet, dun know how is the D-range as compare with S5. Color wise, from a friend using the 510 say it is much better than Canon. I like the idea of built-in IS, external dedicated WB sensor and also can keep investment of 4/3 system lens if change camp again next time ![]() Actually I can save some money just going from my 350D to 40D and keep everything. Read somewhere that 40D third generation processor improved D-range a lot. Color accuracy dun know how good though. so now I am tie with either continue in canon (adjusting color everyday in photoshop) or E3 or S5pro. Just a vote, if you guys will to start new now... which one you will go for? 40D, S5pro or E3? thanks in advance, sam |

And recently, I have taken my E-3 out in -2 degrees and shot a few hundred images without any problem at all. I kept the camera under my jacket when not shooting. You cannot compare a PnS to a pro camera. You are right, weatherproof is not winterproof. But I have dropped my lens into snow and not realising it until an hour later and went back to find it. Got really worried and brought it to the service centre and got a scolding for bringing in a perfectly good lens. Now, that is Olympus weatherproofing. Winterproof? That you have to bring it to battery manufacturers.

if it is around 40D pricing, then I think more people will go for the s5pro. |

at first.... lolpersonnally i would go for the E3 not because i am an existing oly user but because of those extra features that stands out.... swivel LCD and yesh 5 stops IS.... tested it handheld with the 50-200mm @ 200mm, 1/15 secs... pics are sharp sharp sharp.... i am amazed..... would get it when it is abit cheaper though.. hee.... one more vote for the E3.. ![]() |

Do also consider the cost of Oly's lenses......unless you have lots of money to burn....owning a camera body is easy, but owning a system is crazy!

I remember MS quoted me S5pro around S$2399, the E3 is S$2499.
Yah, investing in a system is ex that's why I was thinking of going over to 4/3.. at least in future can recycle lens when changing body to others 4/3 body. anyway, my application is simple.. only kids shooting, so I am only looking at the 12-60 (24-120 equivalent) oly lens, really ex man... MS quoted me S$1380 for this lens thinking of not sinking further into Canon liao... actually the money needed to change over to E3 I can buy a 5D liao, MS quoted S$3899 only. But dun like it because too big and also no internal flash which I like to use as fill-in. Cheapest solution for me now us upgrade to 40D lor... only S$1899. But will sink further into Canon lor... need to get more advice now... make a similar post in Oly forum but no reply one lay... think the Oly user group is even more nichi and smaller than S5 group ![]() if not maybe I will buy a used S3pro and play around to see whether I like Fuji.. dun know whether worth it or not, used S3 around S$1300 but E510 kit only S$1500. me got choosing problem.. jialat ![]() sam |
