Default Voitlander ... any good ?

Seen this exquisite camera around, and it looks like a piece of art by itself. I wonder how good they are, any idea ? What kinda cameras are they ? Rangefinders ? What are rangefinders ? hmm... hope to try a voitlander one day.

yup, a 35mm rangefinders - very similar to the famous brand called Leica
    Voigtlander's viewfinder only can accomodate 35, 50 and 75 or 90mm lens
special accessories need for 12, 15, 21 or 28mm lens

er, rangefinders in simple term could be like something dat of the usual P&S camera ( but different technology)
there is no mirror blackout unlike those in SLRs and the interchangable lens mount is much closer to the film( which means a sharper image can be produced)

original manufacturer was german but a japanese firm called cosina bought over it long time ago

well the gd thing is cosina follows quite closely to the german technology and thus kept the branding

Sorry, but there is no german technology involved in making this voigtlander, it is just that the Cosina company bought the name voigtlander. It is a marketing gimmick, nothing more. Cosina has made cameras for Nikon, Olympus, luxon, etc......Shutter in these voigtlanders (cosinas) are all the same: they are all made according to the same internal designs, something like those swatch watches. Well, this way of producing is the only way to make them and sell at these rock bottom prices. Nevertheless, they are quite good cameras: they all take pics! The lenses are a VERY, VERY good buy!! Especially for their prices! The camera shutter is noisy, but their viewfinders are one of the best I ever seen! Brighter than the leica M6.

Look here for a better idea about Voigtlander rangefinders.
