This is a picture I have taken in Golden Mountain, Bangkok.
I am seeking C&C about the contrast and the color, also composition. Thank you very much. ![]() Last edited by eikin; 22nd November 2007 at 03:09 PM. |

The flags and structure on the bottom-left is far too distracting.

1) you used a k10d, therefore the picture is 10/10 in my book because it is from a pentax camera
just kidding. anyways, the mood and light in this picture is wonderful, so is the composition with regards to the subject, it is in a very eye-catching location, by means of the perspective taken.. rising above the rays of light from beneath the clouds. brings out the idea of "fly" more strongly too, even though the sculpture does not appear to be in any flying stance. however, as rashkae has mentioned, there are distracting elements. the leftmost flag is one of them, so are the wires and things on the right side. i am sure that this can be improved, if not entirely overcome, with better framing and/or cropping though. another point that i dislike is that the shadow is really extreme shadow, if you catch my drift. while entire silhouettes can work, in this case it is not so.. a bit more exposure would be just perfect for me. cheers, and nice picture. ![]() |

Hi,
Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. Here are some of my thoughts: The distraction from the left-down might be overcomed by crop editing. Exposure is the part I have tried to overcome but found quite difficult due to strong contrast from the sky (taking at around 3 O'clock PM) . However, like to know would flash light or any other methods can be used to help in this situation? Thank you guys very much for your inputs again. and Good night. in the future, you could take in raw, or take a few shots to merge in hdr. another way to handle this is gnd, but in this case.. it is a bit hard.
the main idea is to bracket the shot first, that's another way to go about it. people always say that hdr look is synthetic. i agree to a certain extent, but you can control it to look more natural than synthetic. i don't think flash would work. usually when you are talking about wide views like these, unless you have a lot a lot of artificial lighting, it will not look normal. cheers. ![]() |
