Default Finally got my grubby mitts on a D3

Okay. It's cold, it's dark and it's raining. In fact it's been raining more or less non-stop since Saturday when I did Scotland v Italy, and all my gear was still just about recovering from that soaking. And it's Leeds v Hereford, in the glamour of the first round of the FA Cup. Did I mention it was still raining?

Heh. Not exactly where I'd want to be on a Tuesday evening. And then lo and behold, sat there on a table in the wire room, a D3... suddenly the day gets brighter ^^

First up it's a pre-production model, firmware version was 0.31A and 0.24B IIRC. Camera's been out and about working since the Rugby World Cup final, possibly earlier. User had nothing but good things to say about it, most of it I think already gathered from most of the user reports online. Amongst other things, freedom to not worry about ISO and the freedom to shoot less tight and pull shots up (previous Nikons, because of the less than sterling high ISO performances, required shooting tighter than you would normally do; not advocating shooting loosely!).

At any rate I had 5 minutes with it, and can't wait to get my hands on one as and when I manage that. Just as well too, given it gets dark at about 3pm these days... Loved it, some things seemed really nice, focusing I need to play with more but seems nice, noise... took a few quick pics, it's a big big step up from previous Nikon stuff.

Jimmy I want one! (or two, really, or even three, but...)

Hi Jed, come to sunny warm Singapore, the D3s are waiting for you here.

"amongst other things, freedom to not worry about ISO .... "

You are right this is one big worry off the photog mind. Had a chance to used it for a 5-days shoot in a hotel convention room and dimly lighted condition. Group shots of more than 50 ppl were done, on many occasions, in that condition using ISO 3200 and a single SB800 and printed onto S10R without any problem. Love the camera, it gets the job done very much easier as compared to the D2x. Sorry I cannot show any images as in the contract with my clients (not Nikon Sg). I am waiting too but can afford only one
