Recently i notice quite a few some 18-200 vr being on BnS.
Just curious, any reason for this trend?

The 18-200mm is a great travel and walkabout lens. Optical-wise it is not a great lens.
Those who have used the 70-200mm f2.8G AF-S VR will agree that if they don't mind the extra weight and length, it is a much better lens anytime. |

I had one for 6 months, and it was convenient when I travelled. But when you have the time and space to change lenses, using the 18-200 has this pyschological impact on you e.g. when taking potraits, you'll wonder, how much "better" the picture would turn with a prime lens, or when in certain situations, you wish for a faster lens etc.
Of course, the ideal situation would be to keep an 18-200 for travel if you do it often enough and keep a full range of lenses for your normal shooting. |

There will always be trends of different lenses selling. True enough, everytime there is a suddenly large amount of CSers selling one particular item, someone will ask why. Truth be told, most of the time there is nothing wrong with the item being sold. It just so-happens that some people want to upgrade or move on.

A friend of mine bought the 18-200mm about a year ago and used it only once during a 15-day trip to China. His preferred lens now is the 105 f2.8 DC.

Currently, considering if i should get this lens, 105mm VR macro or 12-24 wide angle. Hmm, after some readups on this lens, i kinda set my priority for this lens to a lower level liao. Guess, i will stick to my 18-135 kit lens since i don't need the extra 65mm and the VR and i don't feel it is worth the 900 bucks more (after i sell my kit lens) for the normal optical quality wor...

My 18-200VR is only a walkabout lens for friends & family outing.
One lens do all, just carry light to enjoy the outing. For my normal shooting trip, this lens will stay in the dry cabi. |

Get other lens to cover other specific needs. 12-24 for landscape, 105 for marco. ![]() |

I sold mine months ago because it's an expensive 'casual' lens to own. For that price, I can buy a compact digicam with more zoom-ability and much much smaller.

I am contemplating getting my first VR lens and the 18-200 is something I have been eyeing for a while.
Now that the 17-55VR is announced, I believe I will put my money on a 17-55VR instead. |
