Hi,
Plan to buy 400D and hunting for a better len beside the kit len. Noticed from some threads, two lens Canon EF-S 17-55/2.8 or Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 is in my consideration.. But the price for Canon is almost 3x compare to Tamron.. Is it worth the buy? By the way, why Canon EF-S 17-55/2.8 is not Canon web's price list?? Any kind advise please. |

Do you need f/2.8?
Otherwise, the new 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS lenses are probably more worthwhile. They are cheap, light and optically VERY sound. The 55-250 IS may not be here yet, but wait a month and it should be here. |

Since I have shaky hands, I went for the canon lens.
Very very good lens. http://flickr.com/photos/11849973@N0...7601884417294/

Oh man, this question has been asked 8015120386 times in the Canon forum already.
In a nutshell, go for the Canon if you need the USM and the IS, and go for the Tamron if you don't. Next time, please do a search. You will realise, when you are the one writing these responses, that after 249168108 queries, you just dont want to write the same thing again and again. BTW, the figures are exaggerated. ![]() |
