Lighter fluid works very well for glue residue (eg. Ronson lighter fluid) and it should not corrode plastic surfaces (unlike thinner or nail polish removers). Available at most hardware shops for a couple of bucks

I had ever tried both methods. Both works. But the residues were not as bad as yours. Lighter fluid is much better (i use zippo, around $3). It can clean many things.

"Goo Gone" is the safest adhesive residue remover you can buy. It is so safe that you can use it on cookware and cutlery. You can find Goo Gone at most HomeFix DIY stores. It is expensive, but would you use harmful chemical on your photo gear?

I believe due to our climate, residue quite unavoidable... That's the reason why I don't bother gaffering my lenses.

erm, just for clarification.. this hood is gaffered several years ago and my friend is a casual photographer who lives in Sydney.
i think this is the 'worst case scenario' for gaffer tape that is unchanged for a few years. IMO, as a general rule of thumb, gaffered tape should be changed every 3-6months depending on usage/weather/humidity.. |
