Default Overly Red Skin Tone with D40x

On my D40x -- I have tried different white balance settings (within the same light situation) and have tried differnt settings -- Soft, Vivid etc and also adjusted with saturation (-1, moderate) and color space -- But my photos are still suffering from overly red skin tone.

Is there a firmware fix for this? What is the recommended setting to capture accurate skin tone? Thanks all!

Hi chrys. I initially thought it might be a color balance issue.
You got any pictures to show in the diff settings ?

Reddish skin tones? Let me guess, you used indoor without flash, WB on either auto, flourescent or tungsten whatever?

Post some photos as example. Pictures will tell alot and help others pinpoint the problem better. Problem could be a number of things from colour balance to colour tone curve setting to even a faulty sensor.

Problem fixed.... However, your image is badly underexposed and your white balance is off. So the tweaked image is rather noisy.

Thanks again to everyone who replied to the thread. The suggestions and comments were very helpful. Tried it on a similar set-up and improving the exposure (larger aperture, and move light closer) helped a lot. One thing I've discovered in fiddling with all the settings is that the Color Mode really has a significant effect on the skin tones. Even with the Saturation set to Moderate (-1) and no other variables in setting, one can see a significant increase in the saturation of red in the skin tone in Color Mode 1 and 3. So for now Color Mode II works best for me.

P.S. -- Xandman, no my aim wasn't off with the flash I was playing with my new remote triggers and stuck another one in the back of the sofa, aimed at the wall, to see if it would work out of the line of sight. It did fire!

true to say mode 2 (aRGB) gives a lesser saturationbut do note most browser ain't capable of displaying them correctly...
