i was doing this calculation for my gf who is considering buying the 40D. thought i'd just share with you my calculation so you can make an informed choice. price is based on Alan photo equote
I'm minusing away all the value of the freebies to see how much the cam body alone would cost. i'm comparing the price between getting the 40D alone and relying on the UOB promo 40D body alone 40D - $1816 incld GST 2GB CF (assuming sandisk ultra II) - $40 Bag - estimate $20 Aggregate price of 40D alone minus freebies - $1816 - $40 - $20 = $1756 UOB Promo Promo price for 40D body alone - $2049 CLICK HERE for UOB link freebies: Ultra II CF 2GB - $40 Ultra II CF 4GB - $70 LCD Protector - $10 UV Filter - $20 Tripod - $30 36 Litre Dry Cabi - $100 Camera bag - $20 Total freebies worth = $290. Round it up to $300 Value of camera: $2049 - $300 = $1749 Conclusion Don't bother about the UOB promo. The price minusing away the freebies is the same as if you just get the body alone. u can buy the other accessories separately cos im sure the tripod and UV filter are kinda crappy ones. Caveat: im not sure what tripod or uv filter they're giving so my estimate is very agar-agar ![]() |

The UOB promo seems like little diff in base bod price, but if you consider the very real potential to get ripped, that makes the UOB promo a very safe and attractive one, sans the probably crappy tripod which could be very useful for attaching clamps, small reflectors boards and even an off-shoe flash. No worries about crappy UV filters - it probably won't hurt the picture.

Dude
Well it may not be tat simple. If u'r 1 of those who uses CC for points n stuff, u can actually get a much better deal. UV filter aside, brand to me doesnt matter. People ard here swears by B+W cuz of ez cleaning .. bla bla .. to me i hardly clean my lens filter cuz as long as my image is not affected by it i dont touch it. Dont even remember wen was e last time i clean it. Only clean e sensor at e most. Back to e calculation, if u'r using e ONE card with 3 months expenditure of $800 a month or was it 4 months, u get a rebate of $80 or something like tat. So if u'r a heavy CC user tink it wud b worth it to get e package. N it's more worth it if u need a tripod, provided its a std height tripod n not those small mini tripod. Worse case, sell it off in B&S n u get some $$ fm it. Up to indiv i guess .. to majority of us it might not b worth it but for others it might actually b cheaper than getting on it's own. |

Halos? Very nice! Which brand would that be? haha. Mmm...my basic Hoya UV filter does cause lens flares above and beyond what the basic lens hood can block. My take on filters is that if it doesn't degrade your pics, it's entirely fine. 'coz if it gets scratched, I feel less heartache replacing a $15 filter than a $80 filter. Moreover, I can use the filter ring to do other stuff =p
Hmm ah. Never was much of a credit card user. I figure that if they can give you "benefits" for using a card, they probably have a way to make that money back. Still...interesting breakdown of the offer. Last edited by Kirika; 19th November 2007 at 09:30 PM. |

actually if one needs to get the freebies anyway, no harm just buying the UOB promo, at the same time no need pay cash upfront and can earn points.
i was sort of going 'SH*T' when i first saw your thread but when i realised the shop that is giving the offer, i was saying to myself: 'thanks.. but no thanks...', wld rather buy from some other shops. ![]() ![]() |

Actually, under the UOB promo (Body only) you are paying S$199 for the LCD protector (S$10), the 4G CF Card (S$70) and the dry-cabinet (S$100) which means that, in effect, you are paying S$19 bucks to pay by credit card (to earn points, instalment, etc.), which is not a bad deal if you need all the freebies.
