Go for Tamron 17-50mm (around $610 new) and a Canon 28-135 IS ($720 new).

Quite hard to say. One is a fast lens (f/2.8) and another has a better focal length. Depends very much on whether you really need that 2.8 aperture to forgo 35mm of focal range I guess. Not to mention 17-85 has USM which compared with the Tamron, is a very very silent AF (tamron 17-50 is infamous for its noisy AF).

What are your needs?
I'd go for the fast lens over the longer reach. |

It should be 'which one is better for me?', and you should be asking yourself what your needs are. No one photographer here has the exact same needs as you. |

for me, i want a lens that's flexible enough in terms of range and i'll choose the 17-85 IS. if i shoot indoor events frequently, the 17-50/2.8 would be a better fit for me.
how abt u? |

I suggest you wait for the 18-55 IS lens. It's optically very impressive.

Orient Photo in SLS. 3 year shop warranty. I was told that local agent will provide 1 year warranty for set purchased (any way) with receipts. Sale with local warranty will enjoy additional 2 years ($645-660 from Allan Photos SLS).

Shop warranty. You think anyone at OP can actually open the lens up and repair it for you or calibrate for you should anything be defective with the lens? That is why I have not trusted shop warranty with any purchase, and just gone to reputable dealers.

That should be local set with 1 year intl and 3 years local warranty. They have grey set too (my friend bought from there a few weeks ago). With Japan warranty card.(i think one year intl warranty. you got to check out). Below 600 only.

If u buy from Tamron, make sure u fill in extended warrenty card, becoz there's no service centre here and u have to ship back to Japan(distributer will do that) to be repaired.

They will also sent back to Japan for servicing. If its mild problem such as dust, better to get a 3rd party shop/person to do it for you.Fatigue(member) here does that
