Default Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro lens

I am thinking of getting a slightly longer lens to replace my kit lens 18-55. Am looking at the sigma lens above. any one used it pls comment and can share the photos taken with it? Or any other lens recommendation around that length? I am using a k10d.

I'm using it. And I love it!
Some of the recent photos I took with it while in Japan, can be found here:

One thing though, I think there is the Pentax branded lens with the same range to is announced.
There are apeculations that it's the same lens repackaged to the Pentax brand.
The others can probably provide more information on it.

I using this lense. Is a good walkabout lense.

and nice bokeh at 70MM at F4.5
at 17MM wide open at F2.8. Is wide enough for me even using APS-C camera.

but you have to becareful of the dirt as when you zoom out the front lense will extend out and easy to collect dust.
focusing HSM is not as fast as Canon-Ring USM. Bit noisy

There is no HSM/USM or SDM on the PK version of this lens

Haha bro,

I am also looking to upgrade from my kit lens to this 17-70.

But most likely is next year.

In my opinion, this is a great lens for walk about, thats why have this lens in mind.

Er. Most zooms extend when zooming. I don't think the Sigma is exceptionally good at collecting dust, as compared to other front-extending zooms.

The Canon mount version's AF is driven by a conventional micromotor, not HSM. HSM is only available on the new HSM variant, which is only made in Nikon mount.

Fengwei,

Personally do you recommend this lens for Pentax? From your experiences.

I would go for the Tamron or Pentax 18-250. Don't know if the Pentax is available in Singapore though. 55 to 70 is not a big upgrade, but I have the Sigma 17-70 and it is a good lens. Still thinking of getting a longer zoom.

eh its totally a different class altogether. this is a f/2.8-4 whilst hte superzooms are usually f/3.5-6.3 which is quite dismal.

quality with the 17-70 would also be much better than the 18-2XX
