If I were you, I'd just go with the 17-50. Good enough. Enjoy your holiday more with less baggage. Looking forward to the photos.

Agree with ndroo. The 17-50 is sufficient.
It's better to travel light.

Will be going next month =)

If anything, maybe a 10-22mm? For wide angle shots. It does not add much to the luggage anyway.

if you really wanted to rent something..
10-22 for the extra wide perspective or the v.versatile 70-200 F4 telezoom gets my pick

Rent a 10-22. Should be enough. Enjoy your trip. Lugging around too much equipment isn't any fun.

Thks, 10-22 for taking scenery and street shots? Is grip and flash necessity cause weather cold there battery life will drop plus my current flash not syncing properly with the camera.

heh, i just came back from there 3 weeks ago.
for 8 days, you'll need the 17mm end more. it'll be good for scenery and group photos. also you'll need a faster lens as the sky gets dark very early at about 4.30pm

i wish they made a 10mm f2 L. that would be so ideal!

keep with your 17-50. it'll give u enough range!

so 10-22mm (luxury)
grip (necessity?)
flash (necessity?)

so it get dark at 4.30 then i think i die liao, my lens hunts like mad in dark areas cause it nowhere close to canon usm. Do you think i can change my flash back to the original shop where i bought it and tell them its not functioning properly? it functions with the original lens but not the tamron?

I don't understand why you weigh the grip as a necessity, but the wide lens as a luxury. IMHO it should be the other way.

Really? is 28mm not wide enough? Oh yea gonna be wearing gloves so need grip to make shots more comfortable and easier to hold and also to take portrait shots.

Haven't you been using it enough to know? IMHO, 17mm is actually wide enough, but it never hurts to have that 10mm when you're travelling.

Also, just to refute something you wrote earlier, USM doesn't lock any better than a standard micromotor. It is dependent on the subject, how much contrast it offers, and how large aperture your lens is.

Really? So its just faster nothing to do with the speed at which i lock on focus? Dunno renting a wideangle lens might be too ex for me to afford as need some$ also to shop so is is wideangle a necessity or fancy, maybe different people might have different opinion. wanna hear some more.

USM will affect AF speed, but not the ability to lock focus. Speed at which it locks is considered speed yes?

what i think you are trying to describe is focus accuracy ?
original Canon lenses are generally 'faster' in this sense compared to 3rd party manufacturers whom they used 'reverse engineered' technologies on their lenses..

So in the end original canon still take less time to hunt for focus as compared to the 3rd party lens la let me happy there for a moment
