Hi all,
was mid way thru shooting at a friend's wedding when my D80 ceased up - after some minutes of checking i found that one of the shutter blades had been dislodged. Anyone else has had the same experience? My camera's just under a year old. |

back for the rest of the day came in the form of a Canon Powershot ...
Being trigger happy and learning how to take photos has led me to a high shot count in the time i've owned the D80 the repair guy said it's not common with the D80 but it does happen in the world of dSLR and SLRs |

Trigger happy lor.... shoot church events, camps , go on holiday , etc also racks up the shots pretty fast.
Like jumbojet, 1st dSLR, so a lot more experimentation and learning.. I think there is no guaranteed shutter life on the D80, but the D300 (made in Thailand) is rated for 150,000 shots and the D3 (jap made) rated for 300, 000.

no bursting, just normal shots. don't even wind up the shutter to the high speeds....tough luck i guess... more reason to get a spare body...hint : D300?

I don't think you have to worry too much.. just shoot!
If spoil, then send for repair... of course if shooting critical event, have a backup...

Dun worry, everything has a probability, how many cases of such failure? How many D80 are there out in the market??
If still worry, sell to me cheap cheap and upgrade to a MIJ model ![]() ![]()

As you know, for car warranty, it is usually stated as "3 years or 60k milage, whichever come first".
Camera manufacturer must change the warranty condition to "12 months or 30k shutter, whichever come first". ![]() BTW, my 15 months old D80 only clock 2.2k shutter count. |

When your shutter is wearing out/dying, it will not function properly; it will start to open and close inaccurately, thus leading to inconsistent exposure. That is a symptom of eminent shutter unit failure.
