Hi,
If EFs or EF lens are spoilt after warranty is over, how much would it cost to replace the USM motor or the IS mechanism? Anyone of you here have repaired such item before? Are theses very hardy and seldom go crazy? thanks for advice |

Haha. Great question.
I sent in my 70-200 for repair before. To replace the IS mechanism, it would cost S$300. This price still stands as of date. Note that CSC will repolish the lens and replace another lens barrel for you. 70-200 is not as hardy as it seems. It will withstand lots of abuse but just don't drop it too much like me. (: |

I can't imagine anyone who drops their lens a lot! Haha.
Anyways, it is really dependent on the lens in question. Generally speaking, internal-focusing tele lenses will cost more to replace the focus servo and IS mechanism than a shorter lens. |

It wasn't defective when I last used it before I sent to the Service Center.
![]() They shook the L lens in front of me and I could hear the IS unit loose. ![]() A very good indication it needs repairing, isn't it? ![]() I was still using it for a campfire and IS still works well at 1/20 for me at tele ends. :/ Geez. If I didn't have to drop my lens... Last edited by fireblaster_lyz; 20th November 2007 at 01:47 AM. |

See where the IS switch is located.
Shake the lens and hear if there's inside is moving vigoursly. If it is not, then the IS unit not loose. |

Are you sure about this? Movement from within the lens is actually the counter-compensation that shows the IS is at work.
