I currently have a Canon 24-70L which i am very happy with. The problem is that sometimes it just isn't wide enough (esp when travelling) and i've been thinking about getting a wide lens for a while now.
The issue is that if i sell the 24-70 and get the 16-35, i don't think 35mm will be long enough when i require it and buying a 70-200 would be out of the question for now. Another suggestion was to keep my 24-70 and get the 10-22 to compliment it. The problem i see with this is that i want to cut down the number of lenses i carry when i travel and wouldn't want to carry three lenses (ultrawide zoom + standard zoom + fast lens). Also, as much as i like the 10-22, i want to avoid buying EF-S in case i switch to FF in the future. Tho in saying all of that, the 10-22 is still an option in my books. When looking at the most logical option, i see it as keeping my 24-70, buying a 10-22 and taking the photos that i like until i actually move to FF or 1.3x (if it ever does happen). Just want some opinions on what i should do.

How about dump your 24-70 f2.8L and get a EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS? You get your wide prespective and reach as well, tho its 15mm shorter.
Problem solved. |

if you're very happy with your 24-70L, keep it and compliment it with a 12-24? from sigma or a 10-22 if you would like. selling something that you love to buy another that you need isn't a wise choice.

Keep what u love. Just get the sigma 12-24 for landscape. Either tat or just take a few steps backwards when u take pics (i know sometimes it's not possible) but u can start saving for a 5D

It isn't very wide...not on a 1.6x crop body. If that is the case, I would suggest go with the EF-S 10-22mm as suggested by some of the bros here.

For UWA there is also the Tokina 12-24 F/4. Have read good reviews on this lens.
I was using the 17-55 over the weekend in Orchard Road. I think a wider lens will be more useful under those circumstance because if you step back, the crowd will be a distraction in the picture (unless you want to include them in your shots). My advice is that if you are into city scapes, than a 10 -22 or 12-24 will be a better bet. If you are into landscape of wide open spaces, then the 17mm or 16mm will suffice, just step back a few paces and try not to drop into the canyon. |

16-35mm on 1.6x body isn't so wide, but on 10-22mm the view be like using 16-35mm on a FF body. =)
