Sigma's 300mm/f4 lenses (or any other 300/4 lenses by 3rd party)

just asking - any folks here using the Sigma 300mm/f4 lens? i think it's a pretty old lens since sigma's website doesn't list it any more. can't seem to find much info on the web either, except on fredmiranda (which lists it as a Macro lens?).

been hunting ard for a cheap alternative to the horrendously expensive AFS 300mm/f4 lens for some time. not too keen on using teleconverters or any of those 70-300 lenses. any info on this lens, or any other 3rd-party lenses, is much appreciated.

think you're better off trying to get an opinion on the sigma 100-300 f/4. It's supposed to be pretty good.
