Is the anyone who have tried this lens? Can you share any feedback? I was considering buying this lens as I cannot afford the canon one. Too expensive for me.

Big lens with 82mm filter thread, so filters will be expensive... no HSM or USM yet so no on the fly focusing adjustment like the Canon equivilent. Reasonably sharp from F4 onwards, a little soft at F2.8. Focusing speed is fast (again, still slower than the USM equipped Canon)Focusing accuracy varies from example to example so test before buy
Bokeh is smooth at the larger apertures. Colour rendition is a little on the warm and yellowish side (typical Sigma). And if one had been used to using kit lens before this...its rather hefty(so too is the Canon version)![]() Last edited by rapier84; 15th November 2007 at 08:05 PM. |

the focusing is loud also. but the built is rather solid and most probably can withstand some small knocks. has been using that exact same lens before i upgraded to 1755.

If you're using a body with a 1.6/1.5x crop, you can save a little money on filters by using a stepdown ring (82-77) and then just using 77mm filters (which are compatible with most L lenses)...then you can future proof a bit, if and when you upgrade you can keep your filters. |

Thanks.
Is it resoanably sharp at f2.8? This lens have mixed review, some says it is great lens considering the price some says it not good at all. Any comment? |

Its reasonably sharp at F2.8 in the sense that it is sharp by most standards (Unless you print like above A4 or print at 72 ppi, viewed at 72 ppi/100% will give the impression of just okay in sharpness). Wide open sharpness varies from copy to copy (the copy I have is average), contrast is still behind the Canon version (which gives the impression of not very sharp compared to the Canon at F2.8). The lens I feel is only really sharp from F4 onwards. But for the price, there's really not much complaints

Depends on yr budget actually. Just because its not as good as the canon 24-70, doesnt mean its not a good lens.

the tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 is a sharper, smaller and lighter lens.

if you have to have a 24-70mm sigma, get the f3.5-5.6 version instead.
it cannot get f2.8 of course, but it is sharp throughout it's entire range at it's widest f-stops! amazing but true. light and cheap and sharp. if you have to have f2.8 sharp, get the original camera brand's version. |
