in a few sentences..
1. not wide enough on a 1.6x/1.5x crop camera. 2. extremely sharp if you got a good copy, focus is fast under normal conditions, but struggles to lock under challenging lighting. 3. the best choice among the 3rd party offerings in the 2x-7x mm range. 4. v.lightweight considering it is offering f2.8 glass (the Canon 24-70L is 900+g!!) |

I have 2 of them in canon mount.
Sharpness is good even at F2.8 but corner sharpness isnt fantastic. Focus speed is ok but nowhere near USM or SWM in the canon n nikon equivalent. BTW you look like another member Redsun, who also stays in Jurong west... ![]() |

Was the first F2.8 lens i bought for my first DSLR (300D). It really isn't wide enough on crop-factor cams. I think i had a bad copy as it wasn't sharp at F2.8 but was tack sharp at F4 onwards. Bokeh is pretty nice. Colour and contrast is pretty good but not great (not L-standard). Focusing speed is slow compared to Canon USM lenses and hunts a lot under low light. For the $$$ however, i think it's quite good value. Just don't expect it to compete with L lenses.

a great lens, stacked with kenko 2x TC and stopping down to f4 give you fantastic 1:1.85 closeup images.
1 shot taken with the 28-75 mounte don a kenko 2x, not closeup tho http://hkchew03.deviantart.com/art/CareFREE-51622907 for macro, maybe this... http://hkchew03.deviantart.com/art/Fury-Red-49601128 sharpness is great, but not superb at f2.8. at f4 it become fantastic. as for corner, i find them pretty good even wide open, sharper than most lenses. focusing speed is pretty average, slow if you compare it to USM/SWM lenses but it cost a fraction of those. I say, its nothing to worry aboutCA is very well controlled on my copy, showing much better results than my tokina 12-24 and nikkor 80-200. A lens worthy of getting if you do use that focal length on dSLR. Last edited by ExplorerZ; 13th November 2007 at 10:41 PM. |

great optics at a brilliant price.. only that you will have a slower focusing lens.
