hi fellow oly users!
i'm currently using an oly e330 and recently, there seems to be this count down shots. (e.g. the amt of shots left on a memory card is 300, i take 3 pictures and delete them, but instead of the number going back to 300, it is not at 297! and it keeps dropping.) initially i tot it was the memory card problem but after i changed the card, it still shows the same number!! is it the count down to how many shutter there is left before i have to change?? tried using XD cards as well but still the same number appears,297 and keeps dropping as i take more pictures to try out... den i tried restarting the whole camera, and it still din help... at my wits end... this is freaking me out, my wife is counting down!! ahhh help... any advice? |

Have you tried plugging the E330 into the computer and checking the card? 'coz maybe you're shooting in raw + jpg and you're only deleting those jpg files...

- Have you tried to do a "reset to factory settings" to see if that helps?
- Have you tried using a new CF card? (Or at least another card besides the one mentioned?) - Did you format the CF card in the camera? - Check out the threads for the "method" to check your shutter count - see if the number makes any sense. - Could be a firmware error; try plugging your E330 to your computer and turn on OLY Master to see if your E330 needs updating.

Don't see that problem. Each time the shot, the number on the extreme bottom right counts down. That shows the number of shots estimated to be left you can shoot with that memory chip. But this figure would depend on the number of mb use by a single picture. Please not that not all pictures use the same number of mb. Try putting in a 16mb or smaller chip. Shoot till it's full (easier if it in RAW) Check the number as you shoot and delete 1 then shoot again different picture of different amount of light / backgrounds give a different number balance of available space. A smaller chip is easier to fill and test.

hi, i believe you may have accidentally formatted your cards in your computer into some file system that is not fully compatible with the camera.
try to reset and format your cards using the camera itself. should help. i have similar experience with NOT CF cards, but, external hardisk drive with card reader build in. by resetting the hardisk file system to FAT16/32 (not sure which exactly), i get it function as normal again. |

Talking about formatting memory,DO NOT FORMAT OR DELETE any picture on xD chips out of the camera. They will render the chip unusable. There is a warning in the xD's documentation.

I don't think anything is wrong with the camera or the cards.

yes i formatted the 2 cf cards on the camera and they seemed fine... i cant really remember if i deleted pics via the com though( which may render the card usless right?)...
but the problem that is very weird is this, regarless what card i put in the card slot, the number of shots left on the bottom right stays the same... could it be the cam problem? that is what worries me:< i've yet to try all ur suggestions... will try soon and get baq to u thx for the help so far!!![]() |

Find a small CF or xD card and shoot RAW till the card is full. See if the number goes down to 0.

hi all... new discovery made!! if i shoot with tiff, raw or raw+whatever, it can be deleted and the number goes back up...
for example, if there are 200 shots available(at the bottom right) and i shoot at HQ, and delete the shot, there would be 199 shots sown but if there are 200 shots, i shoot at RAW, and delete the shot? the number would still be at 200 as per normal..... this is getting weirder... think i'll jus shoot to 0 and see how from there... kinda scarry though.... |

Waste shutter count. Hehe. Why not just give Olympus a call? They are very helpful.

As mentioned, the number of shots left is only an estimate. So maybe the camera use the shot you deleted as a calc for the estimate hence the number do not change.

I've can feel your pain, as I'm seeing the similar problem but may not be the same as yours today, on E-3.. My 8GB CF after format left with only 59
so have no choice but to shoot until Card Full !!..Luckily I have another 4GB CF, format and get the normal estimate number count.....and continue shooting.. Go home, check the 8GB, it has a lot of free space... BUT the last file name is end with 9999 and it's in the folder 999OLYMP . The 4GB CF file name start from 0001 in folder 100OLYMP.![]() I then put in the 8GB CF and try to delete some files, but any files deleted will end up with Card Full... This time I do a ERASE ALL instead of FORMAT and its back to normal.. Will it get back to normal if I will to just format it ?![]() Don't know if it's due to file name got mixed up when swapping CF with another cam(s). |

It seems like the cam don't let you take anymore picture when you have a folder name 999OLYMP and it's file name reach 9999 regardless how much free space you have.
Those interested may try this, create a 999OLYMP folder in DCIM folder and copy over an existing file, rename last 4 no. to 9999. Put the card into the cam and you will get the Card Full message. (pls take out the card and delete the folder and file from PC, or else it will stick to the 999 folder) |

So that means you've shot 9999*999 pictures, or 9,989,001 pictures with your E-3...amazing that your shutter still works.
