Birding with a 70-200 yet again...

All shot wide open @ f2.8, iso400, cloudy day after the rain.. yes, more DOF would have been nice

Juv. Black Throated Sunbird

Hey.. I got to say you are good. The shots are very beautiful. May I know roughly how far were you when you shot those pic? Are these pics cropped or 100%? Can you PM me? Thanks!

alleyboy : I was roughly 5~7m away, no they are not 100% crops.
elmzarcega : agree, maybe a touch more contrast, i do like them the way i saw them, which was in a nice diffused light just after the rain, u can see a few drops of rain on the Sibia actually.

thanks for the comments!

Very nice.. I wonder how you actually get so close.

I have the 70-200VR as well but dont think i can so close... i would have thought you snapped on a 2X TC

when these birds are feeding, it's easier to get near.
and the sunbird's a juv, which hasn't learnt that not all humans are friendly

I have tried a 2xTC, but it's only good when the lens is stopped down to f8.

I luv the sibia and Thrush. Short lens with VR sure make it easier to shoot these skitish birds.
