Thanks for the offer bro. Though outraged, I'll let this go. I didn't take a photo of that guy as well, as the lens I had mounted had a minimum focusing distance beyond the distance he was from me.

my bad experience with other "photographers". quotes used cos i dun think they deserve the term.

i also had an equally unhappy experience with the security personnel at SIN. during one of the stage shows, i was at the first row in front of the stage with my gf and a couple of frens. some Indian (not being racist or anything, but they ARE Indians) security personnel came before the show and asked everyone to move back.

a simple question: in such a situation, if the ppl behind refuse to budge, how are we going to move back since we're all the way at the front?

a couple of them then started to inch their way forcefully against photographers to push us (including my gf n i) back.

then this burly young punk of the security team came n knocked against my lens (i dare say it's deliberate).

lucky it's not a very powerful knock, if not... but i was still furious.. i stared at him n waited for his response. he stared back at me for a couple of seconds before moving away, without a word of apology or explanation.

i wasnt intending to stay rooted at my spot, but i had to wait for the ppl further behind to move back before i could do the same. so wat's with the hostility n aggressiveness?

all they knew was shouting and forcing their way through, and even manhandling paying customers to the show.

i reckon it's a tough job having to ensure the well-being of the import models. but the actions taken? lucky thing is my lens was not damaged, and they didnt come into contact with my gf. if not i'll seek help from vince123123..

5 thumbs down to the security personnel of SIN. i hope those losers are not permanent staff of the contracted company. if not, i hope the company takes action, failing which i "bless" that they dun get similar large scale event jobs..
Just call them security personnel if you want to be neutral, why must use the race if you don't want to be a 'racist'?

Hi everyone, you guys might have seen me as the official photographer for the event. I just wanna say a few things here.

First of all, the compact camera was not his. Its Jeri Lee's. She asked him to take pics for her. She asked me to help her quite a few times too. That's why i recognise the red camera.

Secondly, if you were one of the gals, imagine what it would be like if there were no security protecting you? The photographers would be stamping over you in an instant! Literally!
I understand that many of you did not intentionally push forward. But many people at the back are trying to get closer to the gals to see them or to take a pic. Naturally, the entire crowd surges forward. the security people are having a very tough time trying to keep the crowd at bay. Trust me--its no easy feat.
Seriously, can't we all just take a couple of shots and move out of the way so that others have a chance too? All Singaporeans right? kiasu right? lol....Nothing against Singaporeans...I'm one too!!

So guys, pls stand in their shoes and try to understand.

I don't think any of this excuses the main star of his actions though. I think if you know him, you should ask him to explain himself.

As for the stage show and security people, all the security have to do is to make sure poeple do not go onto the stage, I dont' see how the girls' safety will be compromised. No one is saying they cannot protect, its how they go about it. Can they then use rubber bullets or tasers in the name of protection even when the situation is just as described by the accounts? The level of security actions are measured by needs of the situation.

    I agree with vince123123.

Its bad excuse, tough time "protecting the girls". The security could have performed his task with more tact and treat customers with respect. Its not like every single one of the people attending are probable terrorists or something.

They could have carried themselves better. At least start off by informing the people properly, "I'm sorry sir but you are too close, please move behind..." etc. Theres no need for threats like "throw you out of the hall".

They are getting paid to do the job. Its not like they are working under "so much stress" without being paid and hence tend to be rowdy. If you get pissed at trying to manage crowds, why choose this line of occupation?

Similarly, customers have paid to attend the show. They are also in a way paying the security personnel through the event organizer. Biting the hand that feeds?

crustacea, I have tried to put myself in the guy's shoe. As mentioned above, I will still be polite to the people. If I have to curse and swear, it will only happen during meal times after work. (don't flame me that I havent been there so I wont know it. I have done a fair amount of crowd management work)

so all in all, its just bad service.

Irrelevant reply to the topic IMHO. You did not address the security guard's actions on being nonsensical to the TS who wasn't even in his way or obstructed his work in any manner. A security guard's role is to ensure the safety of the target he's suppose to be protecting including the public's safety.

Sorry. Maybe this is just my two cents worth.

What are the job of the security officers/Escorts?

Correct me if I am wrong but in my former experience in the Security Industry, A SECURITY Personal's job is to PROVIDE SECURITY and that's all. It's about Saving Life and Protect Property.

The way I see this situation. The mentioned "Security" Officer has already breached his code of ethics by

    1) Creating disorders.
    2) Failing to carry out his job in a professional manner.

    Allow me to elaborate

    1) Creating disorders.

A Security Officer's job in this case of SIN is to protect the Models. That is when the Models are attacked or haressed. A Security officer should also be able to give proper directions to minimise disorders and confusion.

Use of "Threats" should never be used. Threats will only cause either fear or more anger resulting in only more disorders.

In any case, No one unless he or she has a Restraining Court Order, has the right to prevent anyone from being in a public place. This applies even to the POLICE Authorities.

    2) Failing to carry out his job in a professional manner.

I believe the job is Security. NOT BUTLER, NOT PHOTOGRAPHER.

If a security officer has to busy himself taking photos for Models as well as try to carry out personal requests, I believe the jobscope of a Social Escort will be more suitable in this scenerio.

If the Security Officer is bussy with these request like taking pictures for the Models, WHAT will he do if something happen? will he be concern with the cameras or with the models?

Personally if I am the supervisor of this chap, I will talk to the fellow and perhaps question his professionalism. Perhaps sending him for the security course might be the best way to work things out.

If I am hiring a "Security"... I would say as a whole, the WHOLE Company is doubtful. I will question the professional aspect of this Security firm and if they are able to protect my assets if something really happen.

    Just my two cents worth.

Meanwhile guys, Think it's time to let the matter rest. SIN is over. The guy may or may not be hired again for the next event. If it happens to you again, just keep cool. Take down the name of the Security Company and security officer if you can. If you have a Camera, take a snap shot if you wish. Walk away from the trouble and later write in to the relevant authority for further action.

In any case, you may wanna lodge a Police Report if you have been threatened. Let the authorities look into the matter and who knows they might revoke the Security License of the Company altogether.

try to look at other perspective? if the security guards is being soft..maybe the crowd push push then photographers fall on to models 'accidently' and grab grab grab, everybody follows on 'accidently'.. next day title, Models being grabbed all over by photographers crowd? <-- it is very likely to happen like how you see those big sale, everyone grab one without paying..since have paid $10 entrance fee.

IMHO, no offence intended. This has nothing to do with the above. They should be firm, I agree, but this has gone beyond being firm. He has stepped over his line of duty and even threatened the public. He's a security personnel, not a gangster or bouncer.
