Default External flash that looks like hammerhead shark head

I have been watching CSI NY and the FBI agents have been using a Nikon camera that has a "set" of 2 small external flashes that are joined to the lens and are set inwards, I suppose to concentrate the flash.

What are they and how are they joined to the lens?

and CSI: LV and NY. tho sometimes grissom in LV alternates this with the coolpix and the LCD ringflash (can't remember the model number...).

those who are fans of Dexter, and happened to be oly users, u might be happy to note they are using a oly system with the ring flash.

Thanks nightwolf75.

I am using an Olympus SP550UZ, and so cannot use this ring flash.

The reason why I find being a member of Clubsnap so useful is that I can put up a query and get an answer so readily.

Very helpful members.
