Talking Mamiya M645J Need help and advice...

Hi to all CS members,

I found a Mamiya 645 series model M645J in Sungel road yesterday sunday.
Tested the shutter and shutter speed and it work before i bought it.
It come with a fix film back. But, able to change film holder. 120 or 220.
But, it just a rough test do not know much about medium format camera?
When i open up to check the lens! Fungus are everywhere! ( X10 )
But, body look clean inside out to me almost flawless. So, i ask the old uncle
the price just out for fun. Thought it will offer me $100 or more?
Price are almost there $80 that's what the old uncle say to me.
So, i just make an offer back $40 can or not. (Alway offer half of what there offer) Hee!
And he reply $50 la can can! So, without saying i just bought it.
What can i lose out for $50 with this camera.

NOW! I need some help and advice on this camera!
On that day itself i send the camera to a few camera repair shop!
To check out how much to restore and cleaning cost be like.
Price to restore and cleaning both body and lens it about $150 to $185.

Need to ask all member here in CS. Is this camera worth to restore?
It will cost me a total of $200 - $250 at less to get the camera to working again.
I am fine with the price but just do not know it worth the restore or not?
To save a camera back to his glory days alway delighted me!

Please advice and Thanks to all!

Will post the pictures of the camera.

Cheers!!!

eh? shutter working repair for what!

Just shoot 1 roll and see how it turns out, if shutters really work then at most u have some light leaks..

At $50 u can't complain really! Good buy!

edit: Sorry just realised you have fungus... Same advice, just give it 1 test roll see how bad it turns out...

Thanks for your reply bro!

High chance light will leaks in.
All black rubber seal on the film back turn flake and dusty.
Like powder. And some of the seal are gone!
The repair guy say he will change a new seal for me too.

Anyone, know where to buy new black rubber seal???

I decided to dismantle the lens and clean it myself later tonight.
Will get back again once i get it all clean up! Wish me luck!

Thanks!

cheapest way is to just black tape the whole area where the back attaches to the body. Of course this is not a permanent solution.

That what i think so too Bro.
Use black tape first. Run a roll first.
Any good place to buy B/W 120 film???
Do not know how to load the film also.

Anyway, i try to DIY to clean up the 80 mm
lens and the camera's mirror!
A bit stressful but it kinda fun to open up
the lens and put the lens back.

The camera is ready!
Just like a new one... not new like new.
Hope it will take good pictures?
Will show you the picture on the camera again.

Thanks...

It cost around $500 on it's own, so it's worth it to give it a total servicing. As for the lenses, there are many used ones out in the market, so I don't think it'll be very cost effective to repair the fungussed one.

Thanks for the reply BRO..

Anyway,
I try to open up the lens and DIY myself..
I think the lens are fine now. But, have to ran a roll first
to confirm everything. Got my black tape and cheap AGFA OPTIMA 120 film.
Wish me luck. Will post the pictures to show you guy.
If pictures are not good? Than i will go for the full service!
That way i can save $$$. Right? Ha ha..

Thanks alot!

Any member here know where to do processing for this film?
I know Ruby does it. Heard they send it out to other film processing shop to do it?
Not alot of shop in Singapore processing 120 or 220 and so on anymore?
Care to share if any member here know where to go direct.

Thanks alot..

I guess it just my luck that day.

My 2nd time there after 1++ years.
Do not believe the camera will work?
Hopefully! Let me run a roll first.
On that day itself the old uncle sell a
Chinese Seagull also i cant remember what is the model?
Condition not too bad. But, lens turn bad already.
Cleaning for (Twin Lens Reflex is not cheap here)!!!
Finding people who know how to do service on the Reflex camera is very hard.
So, i got the Mamiya M645J and skip the Seagull Reflex camera.

Try your luck on weekend..
Might find thing you like there?

Happy hunting!
