IMHO, you should have shot this straight on, instead of at an angle like this. It just makes the deity look weird and unproportionate... but that's just me..

Thanks for the comment.

I just thought of making a view from one angle so as to forcus on the face of the deity instead of the whole door if taken straight. Maybe its not a good idea....

It's original. A straight on shot would have been so boring.

a flat object being shot at an angle.

gives depth and therefore a 3D effect.

very interesting .

dont work for me too but i think it should still be based on this picture since its this picture to be critiqued upon. I'm bewildered by the distortion of the picture and depth of field. Sure its unique but not the aesthetically pleasing way in my opinion. Straight on might be boring though but composition can be different

have to agree with sprintist. The distortion plus the shallow DOF does not work, add together makes me dizzy. Maybe stopping down may help.

from the look of it, most likely taken with big aperture, probably a 50mm f1.4 or something... but that said, it looks like using a tilt shift lens too, cos the image look like the bokeh is side splitting.

this could be executed better if you stop down probably another 1 or 1.5 stops, since you are saying that you are only looking for a face shot and the body blur.

try to get a shot whereby both eye is in focus, then you got the shot already. your image is more focused on the right eye and actually towards focused on the object at its right eye.

I agree with you sprintist... And in my opinion, anything that's 2D (printed, painted or whatsoever) when shot at an angle does not work for me whether the DOF is shallow or deep... Cuz what i feel is that a 2D object can never respond to ur '3D action' of shooting it from below-right in this case...

But i have to say that it's good effort to try shooting things at non-eye level as they realli can bring out interesting compositions... But do try to avoid it on 2D objects... Try it at 3D objects

Agree. 2D object just won't work in demontrating d.o.f. It doesn't give you the feeling of depth at all.
