Default Comments on Metz 58 AF-1 for Canon Flash (Actual Thread)

Hi guys,

as it appears, you could see 2 blank threads of the same title "Comments on Metz 58 AF-1 for Canon Flash'

think there was some problem in my connection earlier, causing it to become blank thread and came out in two threads too.

very sorry about it Mods.

putting that a side.

fellow members here,

actually i'm quite decided in getting the Metz 58 AF-1 for Canon Flash in this coming week.

but i just heard of some negative comments about it.

i would like to hear comments from fellow members who own / owned / used this flash for a period of time regarding any issues encountered with this flash?

because i heard there are some quality issues of this flash.

such as a user having problems with his copy, and went to service it, it was still the same, changed it to another copy and its still the same.

thus, i would like this know if there is any problem or issues with this flash with canon DSLRs?

as i'm using a 20D.

would like to know if it is because the user unluckly got a bad copy, or the Metz 58 AF-1 for Canon Flash has some qulity issues? but there are still good copies that are being used by fellow members here with no problem.

would like to know comments specifically on the Metz 58 AF-1 for Canon only, and not about other flash by metz or the 580ex.

looking forward to replies from fellow members here.

cheers!

I am using a Nikon version, mine didn't have quality issues, although the built is not as sturdy as Nikon SB speedlights IMHO. Also, you need to be sure about the features... I initially thought all features available on SB800 is also available on the Metz 58 AF-1.

It is almost all the features minus one but I managed to get around that and in the end was no big deal. Flash exposure wise I like it alot, especially the secondary reflector gives "volume" to portraits instead of just bounce lighting.. you now have the secondary reflector too!

My 2cents. I hope it helps.

Type in or google 'problems with the Metz xxxxxxx' or something like that and usually forums or threads etc with discussions come up.

Normally when I want to research a new item for me, I look for reviews, and specifically, problems.

What's really helpful is that some of these dicussions mention specific problems with certain camera models or shoting techniques, and also talk about issues and solutions if any.

Err...I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but please don't expect ANY sort of local agent support, unless it's to change a simple external screw or something simpler than that.

Some CSers have already had the 'privilege' of experiencing the local agent's non-existant technical competence and interest in servicing Metz equipment. Their favourite saying is, "This one need to send back to Germany hor, but very expensive. $XXX. You want?"
