Default Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 for sony camera

I am intending to get this lenses with the A-100 camera. How does this lens perform? It seems to get good reviews and awards. Anyone who has this combination has any comments on the lens? How much did you pay for it? How about any other choices of similar lens that I can consider?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply,

I am wondering why this thread is shifted to this location. If I'm a user of Sony, will people
come here to read the thread? I am asking for Sony user who has experiences with
this lens. Does the classification has to be so definite? We can't talk about Tamron in Sony thread?

tamron discussions belong here
the fact is that the discussion is about the lens and not the camera
does it matter what camera brand the user is using?

there are lots of information that you seek here.

btw play nice

Anyway to the TS..
I am using this lens now.. (with A700 and 5D)... great lens!!

one of the best wide angle zoom lens on the sony system.. (other choice will be the cz 16-80).. haha..

The CZ is 2x more expensive.. but definitely not 2 times better..

depends on whether yours is a grey set or local set i suppose..

Mine is a local set.. I have 2 warranty cards.. first one is a blue colour 1 year international warranty card in multiple languages, the 2nd card is a 2 year extended local warranty issued by the tamron local agent tithes marketing

Thanks for the many replies,

Yes I do believe there are a lot of information here. I just want to know my question is posted to the correct group of people. I have nothing against anyone. i am speaking as a user who visit the site regularly and I would think that if I'm a Sony user I would just visit the Sony forum to check. They are the people I would want to reach. It is important for
me to know how does this lens perform with Sony body. I am being careful of third
party lens with Sony body.

its good to be careful... make sure you test your copy properly... mine had backfocus problem.. but after sending it back for servicing.. (and convincing myself its really fixed)... this lens is very sharp!

i believe that this is also practiced in the other equipment forums
sony should not be special, if not then there would be no purpose for this equipment : others forum

don't you agree?

to everyone else
please keep the discussion to the topic
don't let this thread get out of hand
