Arrow Eye-Fi adds wifi to almost any digital camera

The gadget: The Eye-Fi. It's an SD memory card that adds Wi-Fi to any camera. Plus the free Eye-Fi service supports automatic uploads to 20 different web photo sites (like Flickr) as well as a computer on your home network.

    The verdict: It works flawlessly.

The performance: Like we said, the Eye-Fi works flawlessly. Setup takes roughly five minutes (you program the card through your computer and bundled card reader). From there, you simply snap pics in the range of your router, and chances are, by the time you go back to your computer, the pictures will be viewable. If your router dies, you turn off your camera, or even if you take out the card and put it back in, the photos will upload when you get things sorted out again. It's actually a normal 2GB memory card underneath all of the other functionality and can work as such.

The catch: We figured it must drain more battery—but apparently in-camera SD power standards dictate that this extra consumed power needs to be minimal, to the level of not being noticeable to the end user. Unfortunately, the product doesn't support hotspots.

    The price: $100

The verdict Part II: Sure, the Eye-Fi is basically a cradle replacement. But snapping photos and automatically uploading them in real time to share is truly fantastic, especially when the images can be better than one's camera phone. And the entire product experience is built with simplicity. If you can get over the price and are sick of cords, we strongly recommend the purchase. Available now.

Is the Eye-Fi available anywhere locally?

This product requires a non transparent proxy internet setup, which kinda rule out access from Singapore.

Interesting application for the current mark3s...

Simultaneously write RAW to the CF and maybe a Med/Small JPG to the EyeFi for upload to a computer on your LAN.

For 150++... If it works seamlessly... might be worth while. If you really hate cords and don't want to pay premium for the wireless transmitor

Anyone got the $ to spare and then post a review for us here?

Guys, I have this card, I can tell you all this bad news that it will not work in Singapore because of the transparent proxy imposed by the ISP here:

    From their tech support:

I can explain what is happening in your case and explain why the production card is not working when the beta card did.

The beta cards did not have any card authentication process running.
The production cards now do both card and session authentication to make sure any messages or pictures come from an Eye-Fi Card. When behind a proxy the session does not maintain the same TCP port and thus the Eye-Fi Card will not be able authenticate with the Eye-Fi Manager.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

oeyvind: It may not connect up to the internet, but how about to your home network? If you're thinking of getting rid of it... I don't mind testing it out and taking it off your hands if it works as how I planned to use it.

SianZronG: Yeah... thats an idea I have in mind. Might as well make full use of the dual CF/SD slots in the Mark3s when shooting in a studio environment. I personally hate cables...

    one example:

Jurong Bird Park. Photographer snap snap tourist with the birds. Tourist walk to the exit, where the cashier is, and the file is already there.

Eh? The last time I was at JBP... about half a year ago, they were swapping cards and running around to get the shots printed.
