Bought both Canon Photo Paper Pro and Glossy Plus and compared the image output using i950 at high setting with vivid and noise off. It appears to me that the Photo Paper Pro is able to resolve more details than the Glossy Plus, despite the fact that the latter is heavier. So I suppose the logic of "the heavier the rating for photo paper the better it is" is not true for Canon paper.
Anyone wish to contend this finding? |

Anyway, the correct logic for Canon paper is: "the more expensive the photo paper the better it is" Glossy Film is pretty amazing but Photo Paper Pro is good enough for most and is 'lightfast' |

The Glossy Plus has been out some time, is cheaper and heavier than the PPP, but is less glossy than the PPP. I am with erwinx on the "the more expensive the photo paper the better it is" theory with Canon
![]() I've also stopped looking for cheaper & better papers; Canon's PPP is as good as it gets, and will be used for my more important stuff. For others, I use the glossy plus. ..NuTs.. |

I'm trying the various Canon photo papers on my new Canon S9000 printer to see which one is good. So far I try the following papers already:
1) Canon Photo Paper Pro PR-101 ($21 for 15 pcs) 2) Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy PP-101 ($21 for 20 pcs) 3) Canon Matte Photo Paper MP-101 ($19.90 for 50 pcs!) 4) Ilford Pearl Finish Inket Paper My friend gave me a few pcs of the Ilford paper he buy from Ruby, so I don't have the price or qty info, but it is cheaper than 1 and 2. The best I find is the Canon PR-101 because it gives the best detail and tested to last for 25 years without fade, but it is quite expensive so I use it for my best photos. The next best is the PP-101, which is more affordable (about $1 each) and it is quite close to the PR-101. You have to look very close to see the difference and there is not much difference at all in the actual quality printing. The MP-101 is very nice paper, because it is matt finish and feel like those fine art water-colour paper. I think its confusing becuase it is not matt like the photo lab photos, but very smooth just that it is not reflective like gloss. The CP people recommend that I try printing b/w photos on it, and I'm very happy with the results. I try printing in colour also, and the quality is also very good. If you looking for a affordable paper, then you can try the MP-101. Also try printing in black and white... makes you feel like artist! The Ilford paper is cheaper and the matt finish is very nice like the Ilford darkroom paper, but I don't like the results because the photo looks blur. I thought it is my photo blur, then I print the same photo on PP-101 and MP-101, then I discover the Ilford paper smudges the ink. At first I very excited about the Ilford paper because it is cheaper and look like darkroom paper, but now I print all my b/w pics in MP-101 already. I'm looking for the Glossy Photo Film from Canon, but many places don't sell... ![]() |
