Default Cokin P Series

Hi all,

I just changed to Cokin P series, and was just wondering if the Cokin 89 will have the same effect as the Hoya R72 on a unmodified Nikon D80?

Is there any other brands that sell filters compatible for P Series?

do want to offence anyone, but in my personal view, I do think Cokin P series are IR filters, but you may use it to get IR effect photo or special effect photo. for unmodified camera, cokin P is much easy to use and handle,it is able for more visible light pass through--- my 2 cent thinking

Ya i agree with you on the easy to use part, just slot in and out the filter as compared to screw-in types. But i was just curious as what i read is that the cokin ir filter has a lower rating that the r72 so less ir will pass through the filter.

Im not too sure about it, pardon if im wrong!

The Cokin 89 aka Cokin P007 do allow more visible light to pass through. The cutoff frequency is at around 690nm to 700nm.

For Hoya R72, the cutoff is at 720nm which is higher.

Check out some of the links in the sticky thread for the information.

The slot in type filter is not so popular is there are some amount of light leaking from the side.

Thanks! So it is safe to say that they will be more colors in the final product than the R72? You have any idea which shop has stocks for it?

I've checked Cathay and Orient photo and they are all out of stocks!

Yap, the colour will be more saturated in some sense.
I got mine from Cathay. You need to place order with Florence from Cathay.

Cathay no more stock???
Just got mine 2-3 weeks back, then had 3-4 pieces...
Wonder who bought those few piece?

There is a sticky above on how to convert the cokin IR filter to a ring one... no more light leakage... quite easy to follow...
