The zoo can be a great place- especially if you have a converted camera so you can get the animals without them moving during longer exposures. I take mine to the San Diego Zoo.

My camera had the IR blocking filter over the sensor removed and replaced by one that blocks the visible light so it only shoots in infrared. That means I do not have to use any filters with it to capture infrared images and I can shoot at normal shutter speeds instead of the long ones you need on a normal camera.

man... this is nice. reminds me of similar shots taken by some bloke in the wilderness of africa. always forgets his name.

would be better if the zebra is lighted up a little. just my thought...

Unfortunately he was in the shade and the background was sunlit. Had to do a bit of processing to get it to work. It is great to have a membership so I can go in anytime I want- to one of the best zoos anywhere.

You are probably thinking of this guy for the Africa shots- definate PPing but he has great images to start with. Fantastic stuff. I try to copy him a bit. I am still learing the processing side. http://www.younggalleryphoto.com/pho...dt/brandt.html

Some of my other zoo shots:
Silverback Gorilla:

Three Elephants- they were all trying to get a drink from the same pipe- it is rare to see them all together like this (at least for me):

Rhino

Let's see what you can come up with. I find that the larger hoofed animals make the better subjects- and are more likely in open areas rather than in cages or behind glass, but try other ones too!

does it means your camera can only take IR?

That is correct. So when I go out to shoot pictures, I bring it (which is pretty small) and my color DSLR both.

Thank you. I am in the United States and know of two places that convert cameras here- I think they may ship overseas but of course you pay the postage. You could ask them. Mine is Fuji F31fd which is now discontinued and getting very hard to find- it is popular because it captures great images and is probably the best P&S for low light shooting. It was converted for me at www.maxmax.com . The other place which is also very good is www.lifepixel.com and their website has great information on it. They both have different lists of cameras they will convert and how much they charge. I do not know about any places in the Orient- maybe someone else will.

If you have more questions, I will try to answer them.

This thread has strayed too much form Thread Starter's intention of starting the thread.

Any questions/discussions for modding of cameras and type of suitable cameras please start a new thread.

JoyJoy - start a new thread if you still intend to organize/arrange a shoot at the zoo.

I am closing this thread to prevent it from further deviation from TS's first post.
