Asus Reveals Budget Eee PC Specifications

Manila, Philippines -- Asus has finally announced the list of models for its Eee PC. We are talking about four models ranging from 2GB of solid state disk capacity all the way up to 8GB.

All the models feaure a 7 inch display. The top model, dubbed Eee PC 8G has 8GB of SSD storage, 1GB of DDR2 memory and an integrated web camera. Next in line is the Eee PC 4G which has 4GB of SSD storage and 512MB of DDR2 memory. Both 4G and 8G have a 4 cell 5200mAh battery which should give them about 3.5 hours of battery life in everyday conditions.

The so called "Surf" 4G and 2G models lack the integrated web camera and come with a 4 cell 4400mAh battery that is enough for 2.8 hours of normal work. The Eee PC 4G Surf model has 512MB of DDR2 and 4GB of SSD storage. The value Eee PC 2G, like the name says, has 2GB and comes with 256MB of DDR2 memory.

The entire lineup comes with Linux or Windows XP, has an Ethernet port, WLAN, card reader, Hi-Definition audio, Stereo Speakers and microphone. According to Asus this little thing weighs 0.92kg. The pricing of these models should be available soon at Newegg or Bestbuy. Until then Reuters reports that the price should be around $245 but they didn't specify for which model.

    Suitable for which photographers?

That's nicely over a DVD's worth of data storage, which is not nearly enough. Even using low compression 5 MP JPEG images, you'd overwhelm it very quickly.

It's nice in that it's lightweight but even 120 GB isn't unreasonable for a laptop computer now.

Sounds interesting. Bet it's got USB ports: stick a card reader and a 120GB 2.5" drive on it if you have to.

You could argue that you could use a PSD (portable storage device) instead but at least this would allow you to check email during the 'downtime'..

Might buy one if it's as cheap as they say it will be. Very tired of carrying a full size laptop, even the ultralight laptops (Dell D400 at the moment)

Give me one with a 6x4 hi definition LCD, 400GB drive, Card slot, headphone socket, info lithium battery, USB, Ethernet, Wireless.

For sub $300 and I will buy it !

Oh, it needs a touch screen too, drop proof from 50ft and works to 10mtr under water

Using the Kohjinsha now. They have 2 versions, 40GB and 100GB, 500MHZ, 512MB RAM, built-in SD and CF readers, 2 usb ports, BT and wifi, touchscreen. Only things are touchscreen not very accurate, keyboard not good and a bit slow.

i think it's more for office users....like those doing events...lighter to carry around, events could provide a lot laptops for delegates.

interesting device. but i wonder how can we install simple programs like PSE into it? i doubt a full-blown CS3 can fit into the flash-drive...

if can at least put PSE 5 or 6 into it, IMO we have a winner here.

So far Dell offers a good on-site warranty support. Not much brands are offering it.
