Default newbie question on card speed

not too sure if i post this in the correct thread.. guess u guys (infrared photographers) do long exposures more so shall ask u all.. i'm using an olympus E410 erm sometimes when the sun is not strong enuf i need long exposure of like 3o seconds for an infrared pic.. after 3o seconds the camera takes another 3o seconds to buffer and write to the card (i think) before i can take another picture.. it gets kinda annoying having to wait such a long waiting time after a pic so.....

heres my question.. does the card speed (CF in my case) make a difference? i'm currently using 3ox and 5ox cards.. heard some cards can go up to 2oo+x.. will it be faster (less or no wait time)? shld i invest in a high speed card? or its just the camera..

sry for the n00b question

If it's taking that long, then it could be your camera's built-in noise reduction doing its work.

It is not the memory card speed, it is your camera's noise reduction at work. After it captures an image- particluarly after longer exposures- it then takes a "black" image at the same exposure settings and looks for hot spots and subtracts them out from the actual picture. You should be able to disable the feature if you want. Check your manual.

It's waaaayyyy better to do it in PP, unless you prefer not to do any post processing.

Cheers,

crapex, i think you more or less have your doubt cleared.

I'm closing this thread to confine this forum for IR discussion.
