Default Sony Alpha-700 ISO Series test

Hi All,

Here is a series of original indoor shots using the Zeiss 85mm f1.4 taken today at the Alpha-700 Launch here.

Set 1 is a Dragon fruit series - ISO 6400 down till ISO 100.
Set 2 is a mixed item shots - ISO 100 to 6400 respectively.

Can be found here:
http://www.md-sulhan.com/tmp/Alpha70...ISO/index.html

My personal thought is that the High ISO is very usable and very handy for indoor shots without flash.

imaging resource added some new findings on the A700, esp on its noise reduction even on the RAW files

Looks great for straight jpeg. RAW will be even better (hopefully). Need to fine tune the RAW converter setting.

Has anyone tried shooting in 6MP mode? That'll probably be my standard resolution when I get the A700... Wonder what the sharpness will be like (due to down sampling).

Will use 12MP prob for nature shots where have to crop heavily.

Here's a comparison of 100% crops for you. Left is 12MP-Fine, Middle is 12MP-xFine, Right is 6MP-Fine. All jpegs straight from camera. Detail holds up pretty well at 6MP, but less room for cropping. I also am not noticing a significant difference between fine and xfine; in fact, xFine can sometimes seem a *little* noiser. I'm using Fine as my default now. Maybe if you're using a top-of-the-line lens (these were only shot w the 18-200mm lens), you'll notice some real benefits to xFine. BTW, the filesizes for these shots are: 3.03, 7.44, and 1.78MB.
