Hello Everyone!!
I'm new here and basicly I joined because I've very new at photography when it comes to using a wide angle & telephoto lenses. I own a Sony DSC-85 and just purchased a wide angle lens for it. I've taken several shots with it at different settings, but any that have actually been viewable are extremly grainy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info please contact me and I'll update. Best Regards, Richard ![]() |

Hi Richard,
Firstly, welcome to ClubSnap & getting a nice Sony cam. I supposed that you have a DSC-H5? Maybe you would like to show us a sample of the pictures taken & the settings in the camera. It'll be easier for us to help you then. ![]()

Hello Guys,
Ok.... I'm below is a link to a photo shot with my wide angel lens. If you use a Sony Dsc-85 with a wide angle lens, what are your settings? This might be easier then trying to explain what settings I'm using because I really don't know where to start. Thanks.... http://www.cdnhostingservices.com/DSC85sample.html |

Oh OK, You're using the DSC-S85. Did you shoot at ISO 400? Try shooting at ISO 100 at all times. Since the lens is at F2.0 - F2.5 / F8.9 your pictures should be quite ok if you stick to ISO 100 using the wide end.

Hello Galdor,
You were right I was using 400. Thanks for that. Which F setting F2.0 - F2.5 / F8.9 should i set the camera ? And should I set for conversion lens, and which one of these A, M, S, or just click and shoot.? Richard |

I may not be able to help you much as I have not used this camera before. From what I see, this is a compact PnS cam. The wide angle you're using is it an attachment to the protruding lens barrel on your camera?

I believe A mode will be Aperture priority mode (Av)..use the biggest number f stop..e.g f/8.9, using a bigger number f-stop u get sharper edges..and to shoot indoor at ISO 100 u definitely need a tripod to avoid handshake..the best is u can do a custom white balance before shooting..to avoid the yellowish color cast..

Ah... The S85 was the predecessor to the V1 and V3. I do recommend you set it to 'conversion lens' and get a tripod, then shoot at F5.6 or above. Do not go above ISO200, these old cams didn't have good sensors yet.
