Answer from Electronic Engrg prospective.
When picture taken, the image is stored in DSLR internal memory then it will transfer to your camera memory be it SD.xD,CF. The speed of your memory has little impact on number of fps. A higher/faster speed memory card is more prompt to noise and unstable. Is like pumping Super Charge Petro to your 1600cc car, no performance improvement. Cheers/ |

there will be no FPS increment, but when you max your buffer to a state of R00(no buffer left), it helps if you card is slightly faster, that the files can be off loaded to the card to free the buffer again for you to shoot more.
if you are shooting smaller files, with a good card, its not easy to fill the buffer up you can keep shooting for many shots. ~

I using the SanDisk Ultra 2 2GB card and I manages to fire off 6 raw photos, 7 jpgs at large setting. Have not try jpg in medium or small setting, maybe can shoot more before the buffer fill up due to smaller file size.

Secondly, I don't see why a higher capacity or faster card is more prompt (I think you meant prone) to noise. |

to the original question, no - it does not apply this way.
if like this, i put my lexar 133x Pro 4GB CF card inside it , then D80 becomes as fast as my D1h (FPS) ???? totally wrong man! |

1)faster card DO NOT add addtional noise as a normal speed card. 2)faster card goes as fast as the CF port in your camera, which is... even though you are using any Dxxx/xxxD, the card speed is only about 40-60% as the port is max at around that rate of card. In fact all DSLRs CF port speed are max only about 40-60% of the card rated speed. Practically , it is only about 30-40%. 3) to those using my favourite Canon 1Ds MK3/MK2 users, does a higher rated card (133x or 150x ULTRA III extreme for example ) really makes a lot difference to say 100x cards (which are fast , still not considered normal cards)? |

In the case of CF cards, the write controller is on the card itself, while for SD cards, it's on the camera card slot, hence there is a limit to how fast SD cards can get on your camera, but not so much to CF. |

thanks for the advise.
Found this too.. http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...?cid=6007-8531 guess it does not make a lot of sense to pay too much for faster card. |
