Default Minolta DiMAGE 7 need helps...

Hi there,

My DiMAGE 7 seems DEAD...situation as below:-

I put in 4xAA into my DiMAGE 7 and Switch ON,but after Switch ON sound...then a sound like 'Ssszzznnngggg...' came out from Battery Compartment. No respone on View Finder,LCD even Display on Top side.

I try to twist the Zoom lens to Tele Zoom...and Pull back to Wide zoom...everything woke-up...but sadly, however i try to Focus (auto focus or manual focus mode) seems it do detected but out of Focus at all...

Hope you understand the situation above that i'm facing now...

May i know what's happening?
-Some say the Battery Power not enough energy...
-Some say the Battery circuit problem...
-Some say Sensor Spoiled...

Oh my God...really that BAD???
Need your ideas...
Thanks and Appreciate so much

You can use external power supply to power up the camera.

Possibly power prob. I used to have a dimage 7i. This prob also came up when i was in china backpacking. Few possibilities are:

1. Current not enough (i.e. batt low power)

2. Batt contacts oxidation. Use an eraser to rub the contacts.

3. Internal circuitry **** up already => time to change cam...

Hey Bro.

Thanks for the reply!!

Current not enough will cause the Auto Focus out of function???really...???

Then,if yes...what battery s'ld i use to try it out?I did try the Energizer New Battery...but still the same...So,if External Power...DC power...can i just use those Multi-Voltage Adaptor and switch to 6V and try it out?

You din't mention about Sensor...so,Sensor will not easily to spoil right?

I used to have the Dimage 7Hi.

You say you use Energizer batteries? What kind? Alkaline? Those kind of batts will power up the camera for 5 mins max, if you're lucky! Try a newer set of 2700mAh NiMH and see how?

And regarding sensor, my 7Hi's sensor blew out 14 months after purchase. There was problem with sensors manufactured around that time. Everything was working, but no image on LCD or EVF. But sounds like you can see some image, so it can't be sensor problem (I think).

Well, the 7i is honestly quite an old cam. It'll be a good time to get a new one anyway.

Safest bet is to connect dc power and test. If all working fine, sensor shld be ok. Else if not, might be af motor circuitry or some internal circuitry down.

As this is an old cam, u might wan to consider upgrading if u have the budget...

Erm...i do agree that the Cam was old and is a time to upgrade...just took out and see whether it still work or not...and i like the DOF present from DiMAGE 7.

I've just try with my DC (Multi-Voltage adaptor).set to 6V however i put it in + or - also no respone at all.. :P DEAD???

Energizer?Alkaline loh...but i do try out my 2100 Nimh rechargeable battery which work well in my other cams...

I think this is the main problem. The early Dimage series were known to be battery eaters. Only NiMH would do. Alkalines would barely power up the camera. You take a brand new set of Energizer Titaniums, and almost immediately you will get the lo-batt warning.

Test your NiMH cells again. May need to be refreshed also. I used to burn through 4xAA NiMH (2000mAh) within 1/2 an hour. Had to get myself a third party Li-Ion pack to make it practically usable.
