Hi all,
I have recieved the Nikon P5100 into stock but due to certain reasons I can't take it home to have a play. Does anyone own one and care to give me their views on the picture quality. Is it much of an improvement over the P5000 I hope so. I was not overly impressed with the P5000. Any feedback will be welcome ![]() Thank you ![]()

I'm not sure about P5000 but i do own the P5100 for a week now and here's a short review.
Focusing speed, responce time and shutter lag: Good. It seems pretty fast, i have not encounter when the camera keeps hunting without a lock on. Responce time is brilliant, from power on and start up is almost less than a second. Shutter lag, I would say very minimal. From taking a shot to the next, to me i dun detact any delay. Photo quality and noise: Good I have been playing with the camera and i am very satisfied with the colors and quality of the images. my primary camera is D200 with 17- 55 2.8 lens, yet i find that i am very happy with the out put, of course d200 is better but for a compact, i have no complains. Noise is a problem above 400, but not unusable, i can accept photos i have taken at iso800. What i like about P5100: ittl hotshoe, very good image at low iso, Sharpness, VR, price and size. The hotshoe with my sb800 is a godsend, even when it looked totally unbalance and top heavy. I find myself holding on to the sb800 when taking a shot. This has enable me to take night photos at iso 64 which is noise free. I have to mention this camera is very very sharp too. ![]() The VR really works, I find myself getting good and sharp shots at night even without flash. The size is a plus, and the way it fit's in to my hand is great, feels like a mini DSLR. will be posting some images soon. It's very well priced too. Does the P5100 allow any lens attachment, for zoom or for wide angle? Thanks.

I like my p5100. Sold my 18-200vr because of it
now my slr is for pro lenses like the trinities. The shutter lag after prefocus is fine. It does well in low (but not stupidly low) light. It is fast enuf to take action shots (once prefocused) of my clients in my gym so they can check their exercise technique. great with an sb-400. Good buy for me and the purposes i use it for.

Oooo, thank you eow and gomobile for your examples
This camera looks like it can satisfy quite well from the impressive examples you have shown. As I mentioned in the begining, I have recently recieved this model into stock but have not had the time or oppertunity to give it a good try out. I appreciate your assistance in backing up what my expectations of the camera would be. Cheers ![]()

Hi grantyale, i have the P5100 in my hand now, here goes, turning it on and ready to shoot almost less than a second, the camera start up pretty fast, LCD on, lens cover sildes open and lens extend out in less than a second. Focusing on my tv, almost immediately the focus locked on. No lag. My indoor is quite well lit with sunlight coming from window. Even indoors i feel focusing is fast. Replay lag is reviewing of photos? Well reviewing of photos is not bad, responcive, you'll see a pixlated vversion at first then the hi quality version will come shortly after, so it's not immediate but to me still fast.

One new finding that surprises me this morning when i took a photo of a friend using portrait mode with face detection on, taking in portrait orientation, the P5100 automatically stores and orientate the photo in to portrait format. It doesn't have the rattling mechanism like in DSLR to differentiate portrait and landscape format, but it uses the face detection to achieve that. Pretty neat function. This mean we have no need to orientate portrait photos manually. Sorry if this is old new to some. It's new to me

![]() Unlike it's predecessor, the P5000, the P5100 does not seem to have a problem with hot spots. ![]() _ |
