I have some intial queries regarding this DSLR.

Compared to Nikon D40X is sony A100 a better product?

Can anyone recommend me a good tripod, Flash and any other accessories required

The nice big thing i prefer A100 over many other DSLRs is that the "Super SteadyShot" is integrated in the body itself, while for most other DSLRs it doesn't, the technology is integrated in the lens, which means you put a lens without that technology, you will not have Image Stabilization...

I am not sure if it is better or worst than Nikon D40X. However, what you need to know is A-100 is a fine DSLR and the rest is up to the photographer.

Depending on what you want to spend in terms of tripod. If low budget, i think Manfrotto 190XproB and a manfrotto head is all you need. Other accesorries can wait, maybe I will consider SOny 56 flash if you have to buy something.

Regards,

Hart

since u have bought the a100, dun think of comparing it with the d40x. anyway there are some lenses which d40x cant use for AF iirc

tripod, maybe a gitzo or alternative benro tripod? feel the tripod urself and place ur camera on top to see how steady it is to u. guess the min. ht when legs are all extended without the middle rod will be about 1.5-1.6m

if u hv higher budget u can get the sony FM56 or km5600 flash.

filters for ur lens are important too

Welcome to the world of DSLR. I'm guessing this will be your first time using a DSLR, it's time to explore and find out what's great and not so great about using a DSLR.

Both A-100 and Nikon D40x are just tools for you to create image. Each have it's strength and weakness. Don't worry too much on "is A-100 a better product D40x", cause a better product doesn't guarantee you a better image.

Agreed with bro agetan and tankm. Its the man behind the camera that took the picture. Camera is just a tool to record that shot. A lousy photographer + most expensive/best camera = lousy pictures.

Dun worry too much about the equipment. Make full use of your A100. It's a very good camera. Especially with the SSS & Dynamic Range.

Probably you will need to get a flash & a tripod first.

Flash - go for the 56 instead of the 36 if you can.

Tripod, get the PPCP or Benro ones. They are cheap & good.

regret is a waste of time.
comparisons are an even bigger waste of time, once a decision has been made. and an ultimate waste of your energy if you've already bought something.

just go out and use it, each brand/ make etc has its own plus and minus points. there'll never be a perfect piece of equipment.

what everyone has said so far is right, its all about the man/ woman behind the camera that counts. so don't waste anymore time thinking about what you've bought, just learn how to use it, and go take stunning pictures that will make your day. now that is time well spent.

one more thing, don't be in a hurry to go out and buy stuff. buy as you need, otw you'll end up like some of us, with more lenses and equipment than time to use them.

The D40x uses the same sensor as the A100. But the A100 has all the nice bells and whistles like DRO, SSS and you can use any lens. For the D40x, you need to get the more expensive lenses (AF-S, AF-I) to get autofocus.
