TC20E is not as bad as most people think. Useable pics at wide open.

IMHO I prefer the 1.7X. Will loose 1.5 F stop but still AF without much lost in speed. I am using one and find it very convenient as it couples with my 70-200 and 300mm beautifully. There are some reviews on this combination. You could google it. Hope this helps- happy hunting.

In most/ideal cases for the af-s 70-200mm F2.8, go for the TC 1.7x.
why??? -At the 1st place do you want the TC to extend the length of lens(max) without losing much light, right? Unless you have other longer primes lenses which can't zoom and need help from TCs. |

Agreed. These TC cost abt $400 with the 2x>1.7x >1.4x,
I am being using the 2x with my 70-200 and most of the time can't tell the different, ie. shooting at 200/f5.6 and 100x2/f5.6, unless you are shooting fur!!. |
