Default Camera setting for S5IS

Can i ask when i set my aperture to F2.7 at night and when i press the shuttle halfway, the camera will automatically change my settings to 1" shuttle speed which is display as red character in the lcd screen. This cause me to get blur pic as my hand is shaky.
Even when i change to manual mode, the camera will change the setting for me. Why is that so? How can i overcome this problem? Is there anything which i should change in the menu? I hope someone can help me in this. tks

In manual mode, u can change both aperture and shutter speed on your own. What do u mean change setting for u? What settings are u referring to? I myself own a S5 IS and under manual mode, i can change all settings by my own including exposure values and ISO.

With our S5, under Av mode, the longest shutter speed is 1sec. If the environment is too dark that require a shutter speed of longer than 1sec, it will be shown in red. However, with 1sec exposure, you will sure need to flip on the flash, or use a tripod. Don't think the IS function of the S5 is capable up to this extend.

For the manual mode, don't quite understand your problem. In manual mode, you should have full control of everything. Don't think the camera will perform any setting by itself.

yup even if the aperture is at 2.7 and shutter speed is at 1/10 the chances of getting blurred shots r high.....wat u can do is get a external speedlite so u can increase the shutter speed to above 1/60. if ur speedlite is a ettl flash than under manual mood u can set ur flash output, shutter speed n f value to reduce blur shoots........

Dun push the limits of IS.
it would take really good posture n holding technic, and u practically have to not breath for a CLOSE to steady 1sec exposure shot.

anyway. i think u off the display to show wads the shutter time, if not under manual u should be able to see it n change it.

I dun know how to describe. Maybe i am still new to this camera. The situation was such that when i choose the aperture mode and set it to 2.7, i am ready to take the pic but when i click on the shutter speed, the aperture was automaticall adjusted by the camera to eg 3.5 instead of the 2.7 i set initially.
So i switched to manual mode and set the aperture and shuttle speed. however when i click on the shutter again, the setting was overwritten by my camera automatically. I think i better go to canon tomorrow to check with the staff.

i'm currently using and s3IS and i'm having more or less the same problem whether i'm using manual, av or Tv. For my case its more to the aperture. when set to 2.7 it will change to 3.5 when i half press usually happens when there is less light or indoor.

No such thing with my S5 though. At manual mode when i set to f/2.7 regardless of what ISO and shutter speed, it remains at f/2.7 unless i zoom in of cos.

unless you zoom in after dialing the settings, theres no reason why the aperture value should change by itself..

anyway, for those new to the cam.. its not a constant f/2.7 throughout the focal range only at wide-angle.. turns to f/3.2 around 3x and f/3.5 at max tele..

True, unless we'r talking abt Panasonic FZ-20 at f/2.8 constant.

ok so you mean if we set the setting already and then zoom in on the object we want to snap, the camera will overwrite the original settting? So in this case, we should zoom in to the object first then adjust the settting before pressing the shuttle button?

i think wad the TS is asking is: how come the camera changes the shutter speed by itself, even after setting it manually.

TS, check the user's manual for some settings under the menu. You may like to turn off auto-sihft (or some setting with a similar name i forgot) to stop the camera from adjusting ur settings automatically.

its a physical limitation of the lens.. you can't get it to open any wider than f/3.5 at telephoto.. so yea the cam would show f/3.5 when you zoom in even if you set f/2.7 initially..

shutter speed wise it shouldn't change at all.. unless you have the safety shift turn on as what justinification mentioned..

hrmm good idea maybe i try to switch of the safety shift and see how it works... for shutter wise it does change if i use really high speed and there's not much lighting around it tends to go to 1 second or 1/50

same case as me. Think it's because of the lighting that why the setting will be changed. I should try to turn off the auto shift and try one more time. tks all for your advise.

For me i never turned on the safety shift and ISO safety shifts. I put all to off. If u're familiar with your own settings in manual mode, i don't see the need to turn them on.
