    The D40 is a DSLR, not a prosumer.
    Canon EOS 5D, 24-70 f/4 L IS, 50 f/1.2 L, 70-300 f/4-5.6 L IS, 600EX-RT. Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6 EX.

    hi guys.. thanks for all the replies.. some of the cams mentioned are under my consideration list... i am torn towards a pana FZ18 now(cos of its zoom capabilities) after reading good reviews on the FZ8 and the FZ18 actually improves on it predecessor....
    any one owns one and care to share his/her views on the FZ18??

    if the cam is just for daylight shooting or casual family/friends outing, fz18 sld be good enough.

    I prefer using my DSLR when it's convenient to carry it around along with lenses and stuff. If not I'm always carrying my Fujifilm F31fd in my pocket all the time.

    For me the most important camera is the one that is always with me :P

    eh, i second that, the nikon D40 Kit + 55-200vr, not that much $ more than a prosumer, great cam!

    LOL so in the end the chap gets two DSLRs instead?

    Anyway either the S5 IS or the FZ18 would fit the TS requirements...

    Canon now have the G9 already.

    It's not an issue of whether to think out of the box, this is suggesting according to TS's requirements. If not i can think of many other options, but will render as OT.
